Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes agreed to terms with defenseman Jamie McBain on a two-year contract Monday that will pay $1.7 million in 2012-13, and $1.9 million in 2013-14.
“Jamie is still a very young player who has established himself as an NHL defenseman,” said President and Gemeral Manager Jim Rutherford. “He moves the puck well and has shown that he can contribute offensively, especially on the power play.”

McBain, 24, led all Hurricanes defensemen with 19 assists and 27 points last year. A three-year pro, McBain also led Canes blueliners with five power-play goals and was second among Carolina defensemen with 11 power-play points.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound McBain has scored 18 goals and earned 49 assists (67 points) in 166 career NHL regular-season games with the Hurricanes. Carolina drafted McBain in the second round, 63rd overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft out of Wisconsin.

I saw that too and laughed.
I like McBain for the most part. He is still developing his game, and maybe this is his year to shine, but I think he may be part of a trade package for the forward we are looking for.

Maybe this is a good sign that Joni is on his way out. We can only hope.

Good contract since he was a RFA. Still may not guarantee he is not traded for some offense but a good contract.
