Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes locked in star center Jeff Skinner Wednesday morning for at least another seven seasons. Skinner, who would have been a restricted free agent after the 2012-13 season, signed a six-year extension valued at more than $34 million, or $5,725,000 per year.
Skinner has established himself as a mainstay on the Canes offense in just two seasons, scoring 31 goals as a rookie in 2010-11 and adding another 20 goals last year, all before turning 20.
Our lens on Jeff Skinner
“At 20 years old, he is still in the very early stages of his career, and we felt it was important to ensure he would be spending much more of it in Raleigh,” said Canes General Manager Jim Rutherford.
The additions this summer of Jordan Staal and Alexander Semin put Skinner in position for another big offensive year.
Rutherford had said he would be active this off-season, and the trade for Staal, the signing of Semin and extensions for Skinner and defenseman Jay Harrison, prove he is true to his word.

I guess WRAL is still okay with the trolling. This page has obviously gotten worse.
I love the signing, and enjoy reading articles and some of the great comments, but will have to endure reading childish temper tantrums in some of the posts to get it. I always welcome constructive criticism of the team. If you have something intelligent to say then please say it. Otherwise keep the comment to yourself. Sadly, the people who write the "Yawn" comments probably think they are being intelligent and witty.
If you don't like hockey or you dislike the Hurricanes why do you bother spending your time posting on a Hurricane article. It always baffles me. I guess those people have way too much time on their hands. Go out and do something with your life, besides taking up more space on the internet. I know it seems infinite, but you have really already used your fair share of infinity with the mindless comments.
Thank you for your time and we wish you the best in your future endeavors, but your services are no longer needed.
