The injury bug continues to haunt the Carolina Hurricanes.
Captain Rod Brind'Amour will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee Thursday night.
The injury occurred when Brind'Amour was sandwiched by the Penguins' Georges Laraque and Nathan Smith near the boards at center ice. The forward collapsed to the ice in obvious pain and retreated to the dressing room, where he was evaluated by the training staff. He did not return.
After the game, Hurricanes head coach Peter Laviolette confirmed to the media that there was damage to both the ACL and MCL.
Minutes later the team released a statement saying the 19-year veteran will undergo reconstructive surgery tomorrow and miss four to six months of action.
Brind'Amour entered the game with a team-leading 51 points in 58 games.
