The Carolina Hurricanes may be losing a body on defense as they continue on their three-game road trip.
Tim Gleason left in the third period of Thursday's 4-2 loss at Florida after an apparent injury to his lower left leg.
Hurricanes TV voice John Forslund told 99.9 FM The Fan not to expect Gleason in the lineup at Boston on Saturday.
"He was X-rayed after the game last night, and those were negative, but the X-ray situation in south Florida is not the best in the NHL," Forslund said. "I definitely think he is out tomorrow. He's wearing a soft cast on his foot."
Gleason suffered a high ankle sprain against the Nashville Predators back on Nov. 23 and spent eight games on injured reserve. Gleason has eight assists and no goals in 34 games played this season.
The Hurricanes are hopeful this injury is not related to the one he suffered earlier this year.
"The negative (is), if it goes in the wrong direction for Gleason, this could be a long-term scenario," Forslund said. "But that's all speculation. For today and for tomorrow, I would say he's definitely out."
The Hurricanes play at the 30-7-4 Boston Bruins at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Bruins are in first place in the Eastern Conference.
