Food banks stand to benefit from mayors' bet
May 18, 2009
Raleigh, N.C. — The mayors of Raleigh and Pittsburgh put some hometown delicacies on the line in a wager on the 2009 NHL Eastern Conference Finals Monday.
When the Hurricanes and Penguins series is complete, the losing mayor will send a case of food and beer to the winner. Both men agreed to donate the winnings to an area charity.
Raleigh's Charles Meeker initiated the contact. He offered 10 pounds of The Pit's Carolina chopped barbecue and a case of Raleigh-brewed Big Boss beer.
Pittsburgh's Luke Ravenstahl countered with Iron City beer, five pounds of Isaly's chipped ham and three dozen cheese and potato pierogies.
The beer will be auctioned off, or given to a charity as a gift, to raise money for the food banks.

so gambling is ok now. Bring on the slots and card games.

Pittsburgh is on the plus side of that bet...
RE: the beer... We like to change the C in City to SH.
I think we need to get some cash to make that deal fair.
NC BBQ > Chipped Ham + pierogies
Big Boss > Iron City
At least we'll have something to throw up after our celebration party...
Also - just cause the beer is going to a charity, doen't mean it is going to a food bank like the title states... It could be given to some other non-profit that could auction it off and take the money for their coffers.

People last I checked there are no water springs in Raleigh. They are doing this based on something relevant to Raleigh, NC, and Pittsburg, PA. If they win I say they donate to the people that earned it, the Carolina Hurricanes.

That is a great thing to do, however they should not include the beer. If the mayors' plan to donate the winning food to CHARITY as the story reads and the food is going to go to the food bank then it should be healthy food and no alcohol should be involved. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a good beer every now and then but I wouldn't ever donate it to a charity.

Iron City beer - awful
five pounds of Isaly's chipped ham - FANTASTIC, great for making chipped ham BBQ.
Three dozen cheese and potato pierogies - More great food. Next to near impossible to find a good pierogie down here.
