Carolina Hurricanes winger Erik Cole will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a broken bone in his lower left leg. Sources confirm the injury to Mike Maniscalco of 99.9FM The Fan.
Cole did not practice with the team Sunday. He sustained an apparent leg injury Saturday night in a collision with Boston Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman.
The injury is the latest in a series of injuries that have plagued Cole's career. In March 2006, Cole suffered a fractured vertebra in his neck after a collision with Brooks Orpik of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The injury kept him out of competition until the sixth game of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Cole signed a 2-year $5.8 Million contract with the Hurricanes in July shortly after the free agency period began in July.
