Carolina Hurricanes winger Erik Cole will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a broken bone in his lower left leg.  Sources confirm the injury to Mike Maniscalco of 99.9FM The Fan.

Cole did not practice with the team Sunday. He sustained an apparent leg injury Saturday night in a collision with Boston Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman.

The injury is the latest in a series of injuries that have plagued Cole's career. In March 2006, Cole suffered a fractured vertebra in his neck after a collision with Brooks Orpik of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The injury kept him out of competition until the sixth game of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Cole signed a 2-year $5.8 Million contract with the Hurricanes in July shortly after the free agency period began in July.

RE: Cole has broken bone in leg

That was a dirty hit, it will probably be closer to six weeks, but at least it is early in the season time for some people to get angry and step up to the plate.
GO CANES Get well soon Erik we will miss u just like we did last time with the neck injury.

RE: Cole has broken bone in leg

This must be killing Colesy - he wants to play and help his team win. I hate that this has happened, especially so early in the season. He'll have to get back in game shape after he's healed. I really feel for him.

RE: Cole has broken bone in leg

This will hurt the team and I truly hope that he can come back in this length of time. But, it may take longer. Hope that he will be OK soon. Such a blow to him and the team.

RE: Cole has broken bone in leg

that wasn't a clean hit at all. the NHL needs to review it, Wideman stuck his leg out to get Cole. This happend to Brind'amour a few years ago and it was definately intentional. Hopefully we get him back soon because we could use Cole's speed out there on the ice.
