Hurricanes
Staal activated from injured reserve
By Joe Ovies Nov 25, 2009
The Carolina Hurricanes have activated Eric Staal from injured reserve, making him eligible to play in tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks.
Staal has been out since Nov. 1 with an upper body injury, and was placed on the injured reserve list on Nov. 19.
Hurricanes television play-by-play man John Forslund told 620 The Buzz Tuesday morning and 99.9 The Fan in the afternoon that Staal positioned himself for a possible return after a strong practice.
Canes coach Paul Maurice now has to answer a big question -- how will Staal's return to the lineup affect Brandon Sutter's role with the team?
"Where does he go, does Staal go back on the top line? Do you move Sutter off that line? It's kind of a good problem to have," Forslund said. "But it will be an interesting decision that Paul Maurice will be faced with."
The Canes and Ducks have a pre-Thanksgiving face-off at 10 p.m. Tune your radio for Storm Front on 99.9 FM The Fan ESPN Radio at 9:30 p.m.

it didn't help. the clowns LOST. thanks a lot mr staal. you DID NOTHING to help the team win. the CLOWNS LOSE again. what does it take to get a successful franchise in NORTH CAROLINA? hopefully WRAL WILL WRITE AN INDICTMENT of what a TERRIBLE job coach mo does instead of HIDING THE FACTS that the team is currently THE WORST in the ice capdes. but the BLAME rests squarely on MR STAAL. If he would WORK OUT instead of WIMPING OUT, perhaps the HURRICLOWNS would not be in LAST PLACE. get tough mr injury, the rest of your OVERPLAID ROLEPAYING TEAM needs you.
year 2006 and counting

This is an interesting situation Maurice has on his hands. Sutter has been playing very well and deserves to be on the first line; that said, Staal is a franchise player with tons of talent and the future Captain. I bet Mo puts Staal back on the first line. At any rate, I hope Staal is healed and Ward is well on his way as well. Go Canes! Happy Thanksgiving, all.

I'd leave Sutter on the top line until Staal shows that he's playing better than Sutter, which might or might not happen. Sutter's been one of the best players on the team since he came up from Albany. For a week or so, he was the only offense the 'Canes had.
It would be great to see Staal play better than Sutter has been and take that spot away. If that happens, the 'Canes might be able to start scoring 3 or more - and winning - consistently

I agree. But Staal will always be one of my favorite players to watch.

Here's what we do with eduardo...click the little upside down triangle with the exclamation mark in it and report him. They'll ban him sooner rather than later. Clearly, that person has no life.
As for Staal, I say put him on the second line. Remember, when he was healthy and playing the Canes weren't exactly burning it up. And Sutter has been as good as Staal so far this year. So leave the kid on that first line where he seems to be flourishing.
RE: Staal activated from injured reserve
Sutter does not deserve top line after a 20+ game stint in the NHL. Staal is this teams 1st line center and I expect Maurice to put him there. Sutter will do better in the long run...Staal will be fine if healthy...he has shown that. You don't get voted to the all star team and the Canadian olympic team by being some kind of slacker as others here suggest.
