Forslund: Brind'Amour's status must be addressed
By Joe Ovies Dec 8, 2009
The Carolina Hurricanes finally got one on the road Monday night, holding off the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2. Talk in the Triangle quickly moved from the win to the status of the captain. Rod Brind'Amour was listed as a healthy scratch on Monday.
The roster move capped an interesting day for the Hurricanes. Goaltender Michael Leighton was placed on waivers in anticipation that starting net minder Cam Ward comes back Wednesday to start against New Jersey. H
Canes television play-by-play voice John Forslund told Adam Gold and Joe Ovies on 620 The Buzz that Brind'Amour was surprised by the news.
"We all know is his role has been diminished, his ice time has been diminished, but [Brind'Amour] took it hard and his teammates took it hard," said Forslund.
What is the organization's ultimate end-game for Brind'Amour's situation? Whatever it is, Forslund believes it should be addressed soon and not left hanging out there.
"Unless there is an injury coming out of the game last night, I don't see how [Brind'Amour] goes back in tomorrow night."
The Hurricanes are back in action Wednesday night against the New Jersey Devils.

i am not sure what all of you are crying about. we got a ROAD win. FINALLY. if it takes benching the dear ole' captain who is doing NOTHING. then so be it. our coaches should not be leaving a man on the ice to play favorites or because its a captain this team has been loyal to for a million years.
we are trying to WIN HOCKEY games.
BTW, i'd have to disagree with the statement that our team isn't producing. clearly you haven't watched the past two games.
just because everyone doesn't score every night doesn't mean that players aren't producing game changing plays (ie, gleason and pitkanen diving in front of the net at the end of the 'pens game to save two potential game tying goals). you don't get points for that.
ohhh wait, yes you do. 2 points in the standings.

Well Heart&Soul don't pay the bills. Its Business! Put Corvo on waviers to. They have played a lot better without him to.

That is some fine writing there, WRAL - "Talk isn't on..."? What?
"The roster moved capped" - yeah, that's the stuff. When one reads writing like that, one can only think "Forslund"
Whoever wrote that mess writes as well as the Canes play.

Alot of people talk about Roddy being the heart of the team. Well just like my Mom's heart over time it starts to wear out and needs to be repaired or replaced. In this case it is time to be replaced, sooner than later. The difference in the time on Monday was amazing to watch. Everyone seemed to be at the right place at the right time and not trying to catch the other guy. Brandon was there with Crosby on his goal but just did not get his stick up to prevent him from hitting the puck past Manny. Not sure the Captain would have even been close.

Brind'Amour is, has been, and will always be a great role model for those on and off the ice. However, the professionals that play hockey at this level understand the responsiblities of their job. Being a great guy doesn't win games. Losing games can be broken down into individual stats, but poor performance affects others - ticket sales go down, cuts made, trades made, jobs lost and franchises at risk. Unfortunately, professional sports is a entertainment/consumer market and 'nice' can't always rule the decisions of management.
