Charlotte minor league hockey team expected to become Canes affiliate

Charlotte’s minor league team, the Checkers, has called a news conference for Wednesday. The Checkers are expected to announce they will be come a minor-league affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Canes’ top minor league affiliate is now the Albany River Rats.
The Canes have not confirmed the move, but the trend in the NHL is toward teams having their minor league affiliate closer to the parent club.
