Jeff Skinner doubtful for 2 Canes preseason games

Posted September 26, 2013

Jeff Skinner (53) looks to pass the puck during the Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals NHL hockey game, Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in Raleigh, NC.

Add center Jeff Skinner to the list of injured Canes that already includes goalie Cam Ward.

Skinner has a lower body injury, coach Kirk Muller said Thursday.

He is doubtful for the last two games of the preseason.

The Canes face the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night before a final home tilt against Buffalo Friday. The regular season opener is Oct. 4, at PNC Arena, when the Canes host the Detroit Red Wings (7 p.m., Fox Sports Carolinas, 99.9 FM The Fan).

I don't think Ward is hurt.....we'll probably see him tonight

  • wlcat609 Sep 26, 2013

Any truth to the rumor that the Canes are trying to change their name to the Carolina China Dolls?

If you think the guys are 'hurt' now, just wait until the season starts in the new division. I've been watching the pre-season encounters on the NHL TV Network - it has really been PHYSICAL....

Ward being out just gives the Russian yet another chance to step in and win the starting job....if so, the Carolina NHL team will have one of the highest paid backups in the NHL (yet another Rutherford folly!).

Don't forget that Semin, Gleason, Ruutu and Lindholm all are injured as well and "doubtful" for the home opener.

What a bunch of sour grapes always talking negative. I would hate to have to sit beside one of you at a game. So what makes you the hockey pro? Boo hiss to all the negative comments!!

At the end of last season, I had posted that I was hoping for a total team makeover. Keep the Staals, Semin, Faulk, and a handful of others. Gone should've been Skinner, Ward, etc. they could've been traded the canes could've received quality players and/or draft picks. But NO....instead we got a new makeover in the way of new jerseys. Oh boy! At least they'll look stylish in last place.

Well I'm glad you guys have the entire season already worked out.

  • common tater Sep 26, 2013

Yeah, dang. It's deja-vu all over again.

  • lec02572 Sep 26, 2013

It going to be bad when excuses are being made even before the season starts. Does any other teams ever have injuries? I guess not. Sounds like another no playoff season.

Cam hurt, Skinner hurt, losing games by allowing up to 5 goals.....are we still in last season??

Glad we have the Russian from the Bruins in net. Cam has been injured and average at best since he decided he needed to look like a baseball player (roids aside), not a hockey goalie years ago. He leaves ALOT of empty space in net with his frame now. Hate to say it, but he's expendable in my eyes. Appreciate him as a person, but he's no elite goalie anymore......
