Laughinghouse of St. Aug Selected Candidate For Harlon Hill Trophy

Posted November 9, 2012

— Wide receiver and return specialist Tyron Laughinghouse (Sr./Greenville, N.C.) of Saint Augustine’s University was named one of 24 candidates for the 2012 Harlon Hill Trophy, which is given to the NCAA Division II college football player of the year. The list of candidates was announced Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, by the National Harlon Hill Award Committee.

Players were nominated by the sports information directors at the 168 NCAA Division II football-playing institutions. The nominations were then reviewed by the Hill Regional Advisory Committees, which trimmed the list of candidates to 24.

The list includes six players from each of the four Division II Super Regions. The top two players from each region will advance to the national ballot when region voting by the sports information directors concludes on Nov. 17. Laughinghouse is one of six candidates in Super Region 1.

The winner of the 2012 award, which is presented by the National Harlon Hill Award Committee, will be announced at the 27th annual Harlon Hill Trophy Presentation Banquet on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the Florence Conference Center in Florence, Ala., at 6:30 p.m.

Laughinghouse was selected as a candidate based on his performance during the regular season. The CIAA special teams player of the year, Laughinghouse is the NCAA Division II leader in kick return average (40.1 yards per return) and touchdowns on kick returns (3). His 16 total touchdowns are the most in the CIAA, and his 12 receiving touchdowns are tied for the league lead. Laughinghouse was selected to the All-CIAA first team as a wide receiver and kick returner and the second team as a punt returner.
