Lauren Brownlow's preseason AP top 25 ballot
Posted August 7
When I was initially asked to be an AP Top 25 voter, I was honored. But I was also sort of awestruck by the responsibility of it. I watch a lot of ACC football, sure. Of course I pay attention to football nationally, even if it's not as in-depth as my ACC knowledge. That's going to have to change this year. I do take it seriously and wouldn't have committed to do this if I didn't. Even if it means doing a lot of catch-up work each week to stay abreast of what's going on with each team, I will do my best to make my knowledge as comprehensive as possible and be fair to everyone.
My hesitation came from the knowledge that I'm basically doing this to my Twitter mentions:
That said, a few caveats with my preseason ballot:
Yes, I ranked NC State. I tried to talk myself out of it. Deal with it.
There is only one part of my ballot I feel especially strongly about.
You know why? Because it's August. And the beginning of August, at that. This is all a bit of a guess – an educated one, I'd like to think, but still a guess. I tried to base my preseason rankings on a combination of things: what you did last year, what you're expected to do this year, and if your program has a reputation of doing well regardless of what you've lost the season before. Because, again – all a guess.
Alabama was my only no-brainer in terms of which team to slot where. I organized the rest into tiers, with some flexibility between them of course. My fourth tier was made up of the teams towards the bottom of my ballot and the ones that didn't make it – teams that I will keep an eye on during the early parts of the season so that I can move them in or out of the poll accordingly. So give me a few weeks to let things shake out and we'll have a Body of Work to base all of this nonsense on!
If you think I have your team too high or too low, I promise you, it is BECAUSE I hate them and I hate you. Speaking of that ...
Yes, I hate your team and yes, I'm out to get them. That should save you some time, random fan. You can still @ me all you'd like but this will probably be my reply. Which team? All of them.
That said, here it is, my preseason ballot in its complete glory!
