MADE by Cam Newton: A fashion review
Posted October 29, 2013
Charlotte-based Belk introduced MADE Cam Newton back in April. The department store described the clothing line as "fashion-forward, versatile, professional and sportswear apparel options for men." The goal is to basically look like Newton off the field, just without the multi-million dollar NFL contract and a group of talking heads screaming code words about your inability to read a defense.
MADE certainly follows through on the promise. The collection features polos, casual button-down shirts, a variety of pants, outerwear, blazers and suiting. It's entirely possible to complete the week, from work to going out, in something from MADE.
Newton's line doesn't include a suggestion box for offensive play-calling, but it does have the necessary accessories to complete his signature look from that pinnacle life. Looking for a tie? Newton has neckties and bow ties. Need socks? Newton has your feet covered. MADE also features a shoe collection "inspired" by cities in North Carolina, like the "Chapel Hill" and "Durham." The only thing missing is a towel to put over your head.
So does MADE bring out the Superman in all of us? Depends on how your body is built. Shirts and pants had a modern, slim cut. Not that you have to be hipster skinny to wear this stuff, but offensive lineman might want to look elsewhere. The sports coats and suiting looked sharp and came in standard regular and short.
The price points won't cause any Cam sighs when you look at the receipt. The only real issue stemming from MADE would be a question of leadership when wearing Newton's style at the office.
MADE: Clothing for the the life we live.
