Princeville, Hawaii — Albin Choi will take a two-shot lead over teammate Mitch Sutton into Wednesday’s final round of the Warrior Wave Intercollegiate presented by St. Regis Princeville Resort.
All-Americans Choi and Sutton, who both hail from the Canadian Province of Ontario, ripped off rounds of 4-under 68 on Tuesday to race up the leader board.
Choi sits at 7-under 137, while Sutton is tied for second at 5-under 139. Choi, from Toronto, is 18 holes away from his second win of the season, and sixth in his Wolfpack career. Meanwhile, Sutton, from London, Ontario, notched his best round since a 5-under 67 at the Wolfpack Spring Open in April at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
The Wolfpack is tied for third just four shots off the pace after a 1-under 287 left the team at 5-under 571 for the tournament. Baylor leads at 9-under 567, followed by UC Irvine at -6 (570), and ETSU is tied for third with NC State.
James Chapman is third Wolfpack competitor inside the top 20. His 2-over 74 on Tuesday has him at even-par through 36 holes and tied for 17th.
Hunter Howell and William Herring are tied for 68th and 75th, respectively.
Baylor’s Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen and Xavier’s Korey Ward are tied with Sutton in second place.
Through 36 holes, Choi has 12 birdies – six in each round – two bogeys and one triple that was the only blemish on Monday’s card.
Sutton had an eagle 3 at the par-5 fifth hole on Tuesday, and also had three-consecutive birdies on his back nine that highlighted a 32 on his way back to the clubhouse.
The third and final round of the Warrior Wave Intercollegiate from Makai Golf Club begins on Wednesday morning.
