White Sox keep Lindstrom for 2014 season

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago White Sox have exercised their 2014 club option on reliever Matt Lindstrom.

The 33-year-old will earn $4 million next season.

"Matt's versatility, durability and fit for our ballpark were important factors in deciding to bring him back next season," White Sox senior vice president/general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement Thursday. "We believe Matt will continue to play a key role in the structure of our bullpen in 2014."

Lindstrom made 76 appearances out of the bullpen in his first season with the White Sox, compiling a 2-4 record with 20 holds and a 3.12 earned run average.

The right-hander has a 1.21 road ERA since 2011.

For his career, Lindstrom is 15-19 with 45 saves, 85 holds, 309 strikeouts and a 3.56 ERA in 434 career games with Florida, Houston, Colorado, Baltimore, Arizona and the White Sox.

The White Sox also named Todd Steverson hitting coach on Thursday. Steverson, who replaces Jeff Manto, spent the last 10 seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. He was the club's minor-league roving hitting instructor the last two years.
