National League Game Summary - San Francisco at St. Louis

(Sunday, June 1st)

Final Score: San Francisco 8, St. Louis 0

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Hudson tossed seven scoreless innings, Joaquin Arias went 3-for-4 with three RBI and the San Francisco Giants cruised past the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-0, in the finale of a four-game series.

Hudson (6-2) gave up just three hits while striking out six and walking two for the Giants, who have won nine of their last 11. The right-hander retired the last 11 batters he faced.

Brandon Crawford knocked in two runs and scored twice for San Francisco, which had 14 hits. Buster Posey, who returned from a three-game absence due to lower back tightness, went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

St. Louis starter Lance Lynn (6-3) allowed seven runs -- four earned -- on eight hits with four walks over 3 1/3 innings.

The Giants jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Angel Pagan, Hunter Pence and Posey hit three straight singles to plate a run. After Pablo Sandoval fouled out, Gregor Blanco reached first on Kolten Wong's fielding error. Another run scored on Crawford's fielder's choice. Brandon Hicks walked to fill the bags for Arias, who hit a two-run single to center.

"A starting pitcher always welcomes early runs. It makes our job a whole lot easier," Hudson said.

San Francisco tacked on two more runs in the third. Crawford and Hicks walked before Arias' RBI single up the middle. Hicks crossed the plate on Pagan's fielder's choice.

The Cardinals wasted a golden scoring opportunity in their half of the third. Allen Craig was hit in the helmet to load the bases with two outs. Oscar Taveras, who homered in his MLB debut on Saturday, grounded out to end the threat.

The Giants scored another run in the fourth. Carlos Martinez came in from the bullpen after Lynn put men on first and second with one out. Crawford's ground-rule double to left scored Posey.

Blanco's RBI triple in the sixth made it 8-0.

"You're just going to have those days," St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said. "We just couldn't get anything going."
