Description: Cardinals righty Michael Wacha could not get out of the fifth inning tonight.
Insight: He went 4 2/3 innings, and couldn't stay in long enough to earn the victory. Jason Motte stole the win, recording only one out. Wacha still owns a low 3.18 ERA, and continues to be a major part to St. Louis' rotation.

9/12/2014 6:24:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals have decided to skip Michael Wacha's next start, which is scheduled for Sunday.
Insight: It does not appear Wacha has suffered another injury, but rather the team just wants Wacha to work on his command for the playoffs. He should still be able to get in three starts before October.

9/4/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals activated RHP Michael Wacha from the 60-day disabled list, and he is scheduled to start on Thursday against the Brewers.
Insight: Wacha must definitely be ready since the four-game series this weekend against the Brewers is the biggest so far this season. Wacha missed nearly three months with a stress reaction in his throwing shoulder. Surely the Cardinals will use caution with Wacha, but if you need a starting pitcher fast, St. Louis has been playing very well and no one has played worse than Milwaukee has the last week.

9/2/2014 9:18:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha is set to return to the St. Louis rotation on Thursday against the Brewers.
Insight: Wacha pitched just two innings in a minor league rehab start but says he is ready to return to the major league rotation. Wacha will be making his first start since mid-June. It's a big series as well as first place will likely be on the line.

8/27/2014 4:49:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) will make his first rehab start Sunday at Double-A Springfield according to CBS Sports' Brian Stull.
Insight: Wacha threw a successful simulated game on Wednesday and is ready for live action. The 23-year-old could be back in the St. Louis rotation by the middle of September. Wacha has been out with a stress reaction in his throwing shoulder since June 22.

8/20/2014 4:39:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) could begin a minor league rehab assignment within the next two weeks, GM John Mozeliak told KMOX NewsRadio 1120.
Insight: Wacha went on the disabled list with a stress reaction in his right shoulder in June. Even if he returns during the regular season, there's only going to be enough time left for him to make two or three starts at most.

8/16/2014 6:08:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday.
Insight: It was his first time on a mound since he went on the disabled list with a stress reaction in his right shoulder in June. Wacha didn't utilize max intensity or throw all of his pitches in the session. The Cardinals are hoping to have him back in mid-September.

8/6/2014 3:51:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals are targeting mid-September for Michael Wacha's return from a shoulder injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Wacha has been out since June 17 due to a stress reaction in his right shoulder. He began a throwing program Tuesday after his MRI showed continued healing.

7/30/2014 10:17:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) will have an MRI Wednesday and if it goes well he'll begin a throwing program, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Wacha has been out since June 17 due to a stress reaction in his right shoulder and the best-case scenario for a return is early September.

7/21/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) could begin a throwing program in two weeks, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Wacha had an MRI and CT scan Monday and GM John Mozeliak said the results were positive. He's been out since June 17 due to a stress reaction in his right shoulder and the best-case scenario for a return is early September.

7/7/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) will be shut down for two more weeks, according to Jenifer Langosch of mlb.com.
Insight: Wacha's MRI showed improvement, but not enough for the Cardinals to allow him to start throwing. He's dealing with a stress reaction in his right shoulder and could be a month away from being ready to pitch in a game.

6/22/2014 7:07:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha is heading to the disabled list with a shoulder injury, according to Jenifer Langosch of mlb.com.
Insight: St. Louis will place Jaime Garcia on the DL for the same reason. Carlos Martinez will remain in the rotation in Wacha's spot and the team will have to call up a starter to take over for Garcia.

6/19/2014 5:19:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals will skip Michael Wacha's next start. He was supposed to go Sunday against the Mets, but Carlos Martinez will start in his place. SOURCE: Derrick Goold, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Insight: St. Louis has been extra careful with Wacha (5-5, 2.79 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) this season, limiting him to less than 100 pitches in 11 of 15 outings and not allowing him to exceed 104 pitches in any start.

6/17/2014 10:53:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha improved to 5-5 with a victory over the Mets Tuesday night.
Insight: Wacha struck out seven batters and allowed one run over six innings. The right-hander has lived up to expectations, recording a 2.79 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and an 83/26 K/BB in 90 1/3 innings this season. St. Louis has been careful with him so far, allowing him to exceed 100 pitches just four times in 15 starts and zero times in his last six.

5/31/2014 6:45:00 PM
Description: St. Louis right-hander Michael Wacha looked sharp in Saturday's win against the Giants.
Insight: He struck out seven hitters over six scoreless frames. Opponents are hitting just .217 against Wacha (4-3, 2.45 ERA) this season.

5/22/2014 11:07:00 AM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha was struck on his right elbow by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Matt Adams Wednesday night and is questionable for Monday's scheduled start against the NY Yankees.
Insight: Wacha had allowed just two hits and no runs in six innings and had 88 pitches, so he was definitely coming out for the seventh before Adams nailed him. He's 3-3 with a 2.54 ERA and 1.144 WHIP.

5/21/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha was struck on his right elbow by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Matt Adams Wednesday night and had to leave his start with a contusion. SOURCE: Jenifer Langosch, mlb.com
Insight: Wacha had allowed just two hits and no runs in six innings and had 88 pitches, so he was definitely coming out for the seventh before Adams took him out. Normally a contusion wouldn't be that big of a deal, but because it hit his pitching elbow the Cardinals may have to push his next start back.

Hot4/13/2014 9:04:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha fanned eight hitters in 6 1/3 innings Sunday against the Cubs to notch his second win of the season.
Insight: Wacha gave up five hits and three earned runs. He has tossed at least six innings in all three starts and has a 1.89 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP and an 18/3 K/BB in 19 innings.

Hot10/19/2013 9:12:00 AM
Description: St. Louis rookie Michael Wacha was awarded NLCS MVP honors after holding the Dodgers scoreless in Friday's series-clinching win at Busch Stadium.
Insight: For the second start in a row, he outpitched the best pitcher in the National League, Clayton Kershaw. Wacha has been nothing short of incredible this postseason with three wins and a 0.43 ERA in 21 innings. He'll face either Boston or Detroit in the World Series.

Hot10/12/2013 7:17:00 PM
Description: Cardinals star rookie Michael Wacha (6 2/3 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 8 K's, 1 BB) outdueled Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw Saturday in a classic battle at Busch Stadium.
Insight: As Fozzie Bear would say (and more recently, Pedro Martinez), Wacha, Wacha, Wacha. Seriously though, this kid has been amazing. In Wacha's last three starts, he's allowed just one run on seven hits in 22 2/3 IP. With the exception of maybe Detroit's Justin Verlander, Wacha seems to be the hottest pitcher in baseball right now. You're likely to see him again in Game 5 or 6, assuming the Dodgers are able to avoid the sweep.
