Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha fanned eight hitters in 6 1/3 innings Sunday against the Cubs to notch his second win of the season.
Insight: Wacha gave up five hits and three earned runs. He has tossed at least six innings in all three starts and has a 1.89 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP and an 18/3 K/BB in 19 innings.

Hot10/19/2013 9:12:00 AM
Description: St. Louis rookie Michael Wacha was awarded NLCS MVP honors after holding the Dodgers scoreless in Friday's series-clinching win at Busch Stadium.
Insight: For the second start in a row, he outpitched the best pitcher in the National League, Clayton Kershaw. Wacha has been nothing short of incredible this postseason with three wins and a 0.43 ERA in 21 innings. He'll face either Boston or Detroit in the World Series.

Hot10/12/2013 7:17:00 PM
Description: Cardinals star rookie Michael Wacha (6 2/3 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 8 K's, 1 BB) outdueled Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw Saturday in a classic battle at Busch Stadium.
Insight: As Fozzie Bear would say (and more recently, Pedro Martinez), Wacha, Wacha, Wacha. Seriously though, this kid has been amazing. In Wacha's last three starts, he's allowed just one run on seven hits in 22 2/3 IP. With the exception of maybe Detroit's Justin Verlander, Wacha seems to be the hottest pitcher in baseball right now. You're likely to see him again in Game 5 or 6, assuming the Dodgers are able to avoid the sweep.

Hot10/10/2013 3:29:00 PM
Description: Rookie Michael Wacha will start for St. Louis Saturday in Game 2 against the Dodgers.
Insight: To say that Wacha is hot right now would be an understatement. The 2012 first-round pick has allowed just two hits in his last 16 innings with 18 strikeouts and a 0.56 ERA over that span. Wacha has never faced the Dodgers in his career.

Hot10/7/2013 6:20:00 PM
Description: Michael Wacha's first career postseason start was one we won't soon forget. The Cardinals rookie came within five outs of a no-hitter Monday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Wacha (7 1/3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 9 K's, 2 BB) had a no-hitter through 8 2/3 in his previous outing. According to Elias, that's the first time a pitcher has had two no-hit bids in a row of seven innings or longer since 1988. The 22-year-old looks poised to become the ace of what is already one of the strongest rotations in all of baseball.

Hot10/4/2013 9:18:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals will start Michael Wacha in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Pirates.
Insight: St. Louis chose Wacha, who threw 8 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball in his final start before losing his no-hit bid on an infield single, over Shelby Miller. Miller went 15-9 with a 3.06 ERA and 169 K in 173 1/3 innings this season but was 0-4 with a 5.32 ERA in four starts against the Pirates.

Hot9/24/2013 10:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha lost his no-hit bid on an infield single by Ryan Zimmerman with two outs in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Nationals.
Insight: Zimmerman hit a ninth-inning chopper that was just out of the reach of the 6-foot-6 Wacha and beat out shortstop Pete Kozma's throw to first to break up the no-hitter. The 22-year-old Wacha, who gave up 12 hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings his previous start, struck out nine over 8 2/3 shutout innings to win his fourth game of the year. He may have pitched himself into the Cardinals postseason rotation Tuesday.

Hot9/8/2013 6:48:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha had his second straight scoreless start Sunday against the Pirates.
Insight: The 22-year-old has allowed five hits in 13 innings over his last two starts. He's likely to remain in the rotation the rest of the season and should be added in all leagues.

9/3/2013 9:59:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha allowed just three hits over six scoreless innings Tuesday against the Reds but St. Louis was shut out and Wacha took a no decision.
Insight: The Cardinals recalled the 22-year-old to remain in the rotation for the rest of the season. He posted a 2.65 ERA and a 73/19 K/BB in 85 innings with Triple-A Memphis and has a 3.20 ERA in 39 1/3 innings in the majors this season. Wacha should be added in most leagues.

9/2/2013 9:31:00 AM
Description: Cards rookie Michael Wacha will draw the start Tuesday against Cincinnati.
Insight: Wacha was re-assigned to Double-A Springfield last week but never got a chance to pitch for them. It says a lot about Wacha's talent that the Cardinals are letting him pitch every fifth day in the middle of a pennant race.

8/29/2013 9:17:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals are sending righthander Michael Wacha down to Double-A Springfield.
Insight: It's a procedural move and has nothing to do with how Wacha (2-0, 3.78 ERA) has been pitching. He'll be back in the majors when the rosters expand on September 1st.

8/10/2013 8:57:00 PM
Description: According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said that after Saturday's start, prospect Michael Wacha will move to the bullpen and be used in "higher leverage" spots in the late innings.
Insight: Joe Strauss of the Post-Dispatch reported Friday that the team might consider a six-man rotation to keep Wacha in the majors, but he'll move to middle relief where he'll have no fantasy value.

8/9/2013 7:51:00 PM
Description: The expectation was that Michael Wacha would be sent back to Triple-A after Saturday's start against Chicago but according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Joe Strauss, that probably won't be the case.
Insight: Strauss suggested that the Cardinals could opt to use a six-man rotation to give their starters some extra rest. ESPN's Jim Callis rated Wacha as MLB's third-best prospect about a week ago.

8/8/2013 6:15:00 PM
Description: According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals will recall prospect Michael Wacha to start Saturday against the Cubs. The team is adding Wacha for Saturday's start to get ace Adam Wainwright and Jake Westbrook, who entered Wednesday in relief of the injured Shelby Miller, some extra rest.
Insight: Wacha, the No. 19 overall pick in 2012, went 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in three starts in the majors from May 30 to July 11 and then was returned to the minors so the team could control his innings. He is 5-3 with a 2.65 ERA and a 73/19 K/BB in 85 innings with Triple-A Memphis this season but is doubtful to remain in the rotation after Saturday.

6/29/2013 6:47:00 PM
Description: According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, pitching prospect Michael Wacha is not expected to make his next minor league start until July 2.
Insight: Wacha went 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in three starts in the majors from May 30 to July 11 and then was returned to the minors so the team can control his innings. He hasn't started with Triple-A Memphis since June 18. Wacha, the No. 19 overall pick in 2012, is 4-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 10 starts with Memphis this year.

6/11/2013 10:03:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha tossed six innings and allowed two runs Tuesday against the Mets to pick up his first big-league win.
Insight: Wacha has thrown two good starts and one dud so far and has a 4.58 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He'll probably stay in the rotation over Tyler Lyons when Jake Westbrook returns Friday.

5/28/2013 9:08:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals will try to limit 2012 first-round pick Michael Wacha to 150 innings to avoid wear and tear, according to FoxSportsMidwest.com.
Insight: Wacha is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA and a 34/15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 52 2/3 innings at Memphis this season, his first as a pro. He'll be called up to start Thursday and should stick around in the rotation for at least a few starts with Jake Westbrook, John Gast, Chris Carpenter, and Jaime Garcia out.

5/28/2013 4:50:00 PM
Description: Michael Wacha, the Cardinals' 2012 first-round pick, will be called up to start Thursday against the Royals, according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.
Insight: Wacha is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA and a 34/15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 52 2/3 innings at Memphis this season, his first as a pro. He should be added in all leagues.

5/26/2013 9:15:00 PM
Description: Michael Wacha, the Cardinals' 2012 first-round pick, was schedule to pitch Sunday for Triple-A Memphis, but that didn't happen and he should be ready to take the John Gast/Jake Westbrook spot in the rotation.
Insight: Wacha is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA and a 34/15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 52 2/3 innings at Memphis this season, his first as a pro. You have to hand it to the Cardinals scouting staff for continually finding good pitchers.

5/18/2013 5:54:00 PM
Description: Jaime Garcia's shoulder strain could open the door for Michael Wacha, the Cardinals' 2012 first-round pick, to join the team's rotation.
Insight: Wacha is 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA and a 32/14 K/BB in 47 2/3 innings at Triple-A Memphis this season, his first as a pro. John Gast already is up with the team following Jake Westbrook's injury, so Wacha could be the next man up.
