Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday.
Insight: It was his first time on a mound since he went on the disabled list with a stress reaction in his right shoulder in June. Wacha didn't utilize max intensity or throw all of his pitches in the session. The Cardinals are hoping to have him back in mid-September.

Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) will have an MRI Wednesday and if it goes well he'll begin a throwing program, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Wacha has been out since June 17 due to a stress reaction in his right shoulder and the best-case scenario for a return is early September.

7/21/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) could begin a throwing program in two weeks, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Wacha had an MRI and CT scan Monday and GM John Mozeliak said the results were positive. He's been out since June 17 due to a stress reaction in his right shoulder and the best-case scenario for a return is early September.

7/7/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (shoulder) will be shut down for two more weeks, according to Jenifer Langosch of mlb.com.
Insight: Wacha's MRI showed improvement, but not enough for the Cardinals to allow him to start throwing. He's dealing with a stress reaction in his right shoulder and could be a month away from being ready to pitch in a game.

6/22/2014 7:07:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha is heading to the disabled list with a shoulder injury, according to Jenifer Langosch of mlb.com.
Insight: St. Louis will place Jaime Garcia on the DL for the same reason. Carlos Martinez will remain in the rotation in Wacha's spot and the team will have to call up a starter to take over for Garcia.

Description: The Cardinals will skip Michael Wacha's next start. He was supposed to go Sunday against the Mets, but Carlos Martinez will start in his place. SOURCE: Derrick Goold, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Insight: St. Louis has been extra careful with Wacha (5-5, 2.79 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) this season, limiting him to less than 100 pitches in 11 of 15 outings and not allowing him to exceed 104 pitches in any start.

6/17/2014 10:53:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha improved to 5-5 with a victory over the Mets Tuesday night.
Insight: Wacha struck out seven batters and allowed one run over six innings. The right-hander has lived up to expectations, recording a 2.79 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and an 83/26 K/BB in 90 1/3 innings this season. St. Louis has been careful with him so far, allowing him to exceed 100 pitches just four times in 15 starts and zero times in his last six.

5/31/2014 6:45:00 PM
Description: St. Louis right-hander Michael Wacha looked sharp in Saturday's win against the Giants.
Insight: He struck out seven hitters over six scoreless frames. Opponents are hitting just .217 against Wacha (4-3, 2.45 ERA) this season.

5/22/2014 11:07:00 AM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha was struck on his right elbow by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Matt Adams Wednesday night and is questionable for Monday's scheduled start against the NY Yankees.
Insight: Wacha had allowed just two hits and no runs in six innings and had 88 pitches, so he was definitely coming out for the seventh before Adams nailed him. He's 3-3 with a 2.54 ERA and 1.144 WHIP.

Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha was struck on his right elbow by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Matt Adams Wednesday night and had to leave his start with a contusion. SOURCE: Jenifer Langosch, mlb.com
Insight: Wacha had allowed just two hits and no runs in six innings and had 88 pitches, so he was definitely coming out for the seventh before Adams took him out. Normally a contusion wouldn't be that big of a deal, but because it hit his pitching elbow the Cardinals may have to push his next start back.

Hot4/13/2014 9:04:00 PM
Description: Cardinals starter Michael Wacha fanned eight hitters in 6 1/3 innings Sunday against the Cubs to notch his second win of the season.
Insight: Wacha gave up five hits and three earned runs. He has tossed at least six innings in all three starts and has a 1.89 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP and an 18/3 K/BB in 19 innings.

Hot10/19/2013 9:12:00 AM
Description: St. Louis rookie Michael Wacha was awarded NLCS MVP honors after holding the Dodgers scoreless in Friday's series-clinching win at Busch Stadium.
Insight: For the second start in a row, he outpitched the best pitcher in the National League, Clayton Kershaw. Wacha has been nothing short of incredible this postseason with three wins and a 0.43 ERA in 21 innings. He'll face either Boston or Detroit in the World Series.

Hot10/12/2013 7:17:00 PM
Description: Cardinals star rookie Michael Wacha (6 2/3 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 8 K's, 1 BB) outdueled Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw Saturday in a classic battle at Busch Stadium.
Insight: As Fozzie Bear would say (and more recently, Pedro Martinez), Wacha, Wacha, Wacha. Seriously though, this kid has been amazing. In Wacha's last three starts, he's allowed just one run on seven hits in 22 2/3 IP. With the exception of maybe Detroit's Justin Verlander, Wacha seems to be the hottest pitcher in baseball right now. You're likely to see him again in Game 5 or 6, assuming the Dodgers are able to avoid the sweep.

Hot10/10/2013 3:29:00 PM
Description: Rookie Michael Wacha will start for St. Louis Saturday in Game 2 against the Dodgers.
Insight: To say that Wacha is hot right now would be an understatement. The 2012 first-round pick has allowed just two hits in his last 16 innings with 18 strikeouts and a 0.56 ERA over that span. Wacha has never faced the Dodgers in his career.

Hot10/7/2013 6:20:00 PM
Description: Michael Wacha's first career postseason start was one we won't soon forget. The Cardinals rookie came within five outs of a no-hitter Monday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Wacha (7 1/3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 9 K's, 2 BB) had a no-hitter through 8 2/3 in his previous outing. According to Elias, that's the first time a pitcher has had two no-hit bids in a row of seven innings or longer since 1988. The 22-year-old looks poised to become the ace of what is already one of the strongest rotations in all of baseball.

Hot10/4/2013 9:18:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals will start Michael Wacha in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Pirates.
Insight: St. Louis chose Wacha, who threw 8 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball in his final start before losing his no-hit bid on an infield single, over Shelby Miller. Miller went 15-9 with a 3.06 ERA and 169 K in 173 1/3 innings this season but was 0-4 with a 5.32 ERA in four starts against the Pirates.

Hot9/24/2013 10:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha lost his no-hit bid on an infield single by Ryan Zimmerman with two outs in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Nationals.
Insight: Zimmerman hit a ninth-inning chopper that was just out of the reach of the 6-foot-6 Wacha and beat out shortstop Pete Kozma's throw to first to break up the no-hitter. The 22-year-old Wacha, who gave up 12 hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings his previous start, struck out nine over 8 2/3 shutout innings to win his fourth game of the year. He may have pitched himself into the Cardinals postseason rotation Tuesday.

Hot9/8/2013 6:48:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha had his second straight scoreless start Sunday against the Pirates.
Insight: The 22-year-old has allowed five hits in 13 innings over his last two starts. He's likely to remain in the rotation the rest of the season and should be added in all leagues.

9/3/2013 9:59:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha allowed just three hits over six scoreless innings Tuesday against the Reds but St. Louis was shut out and Wacha took a no decision.
Insight: The Cardinals recalled the 22-year-old to remain in the rotation for the rest of the season. He posted a 2.65 ERA and a 73/19 K/BB in 85 innings with Triple-A Memphis and has a 3.20 ERA in 39 1/3 innings in the majors this season. Wacha should be added in most leagues.
