National League Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, July 19 (All times Eastern)

Colorado Rockies (40-56) at Pittsburgh Pirates (50-46), 7:05 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Colorado - Brett Anderson (0-3, 4.95) Pittsburgh - Charlie Morton (5-9, 3.32)

(SportsNetwork.com) - Charlie Morton aims to win his fourth straight home start when the Pittsburgh Pirates resume their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies tonight.

The 30-year-old right-hander hasn't lost at PNC Park since May 11 against St. Louis. Overall, he's 1-0 in his last three starts, but is coming off a pair of no-decisions at St. Louis on July 7 and at Cincinnati last Saturday.

Morton is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in three starts this year versus NL West teams. Against Colorado, he's 2-0 with a 3.33 ERA in four career starts.

Brett Anderson counters for the Rockies and will be facing the Pirates for the first time in his career. The lefty makes his second start since coming off the disabled list. Anderson, who was sidelined 81 games due to a broken left index finger, returned Sunday against Minnesota and gave up six runs -- five earned -- on 10 hits with three walks over five innings of a 13-5 loss.

Anderson is aiming for his first win since April 7, 2013 at Houston when he pitched for Oakland.

Last night, pinch-hitter Travis Snider drove in the winning run in the eighth inning to help the Pirates grab a 4-2 victory. Starling Marte drove in two runs, Gaby Sanchez had two hits and an RBI, while Gregory Polanco had two hits and scored once for the Pirates, who had dropped five of seven going into the All-Star break.

Francisco Liriano pitched five innings and gave up just one unearned run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. Tony Watson (6-1) tossed a scoreless eighth for the win.

Corey Dickerson and DJ LeMahieu each drove in a run for the Rockies, who have lost their past three.

Jorge De La Rosa lasted six innings and gave up a run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Matt Belisle (2-5) was charged with two runs in the eighth inning to get tagged with the loss.

"It's a tough loss today, especially after the way we were playing," De La Rosa said.

With Belisle on the mound, Neil Walker singled and Sanchez followed with a base hit to center. Snider then doubled in Walker and Josh Harrison later added a sacrifice fly for a 4-2 lead.

"One of the things we continue to talk about with all the pinch-hitters is the fact that you don't need to carry the weight of anything up there," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "You have a chance to do good. There's no lose, there's no down side."

Mark Melancon pitched around a leadoff single in the ninth for his 17th save of the season.

Colorado and Pittsburgh are meeting for the first time since the Rockies won four of six matchups last season. The Pirates were 4-2 against the Rockies in 2012.

The Pirates have won 10 of their last 12 home games. A win either tonight or Sunday would give them another home series win over the Rockies. Entering the weekend, the Pirates were 12-2-1 in 15 series against the Rockies all-time at PNC Park.
