National League Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, July 27 (All times Eastern)

New York Mets (49-55) at Milwaukee Brewers (59-46), 2:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: New York - Jacob deGrom (4-5, 3.01) Milwaukee - Jimmy Nelson (1-1, 5.06)

(SportsNetwork.com) - With five wins in their last six games, the Milwaukee Brewers have started to open a small lead in the National League Central. On Sunday, they conclude a four-game series against the New York Mets as young right-handers Jacob deGrom and Jimmy Nelson duel on the mound.

The 26-year-old deGrom has won three straight starts and has pitched seven innings in each of those contests. In that time, he's allowed just two runs and has piled up 26 strikeouts against just three walks with victories over Atlanta, Miami and Seattle.

On June 11, deGrom gave up nine hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings in his only career start against the Brewers, that being a 3-1 loss at Citi Field. Nelson.

Nelson will make his fourth start for the Brewers. On Tuesday versus Cincinnati, he didn't get a decision in a 4-3 Milwaukee win. Nelson, who is filling in for the injured Wei-Chung Wang, notched his only career win on May 25 at Miami. His only appearance against the Mets came last season on Sept. 28 at Citi Field as he had no decision. That was his first major league start.

Last night, Mark Reynolds hit a solo home run and the Brewers earned a 5-2 win. Reynolds and Ryan Braun each had a pair of hits for the surging Brewers, who have won five of six. Braun, Jonathan Lucroy and Khris Davis drove in a run apiece.

Wily Peralta (12-6) won his third straight start after yielding a pair of runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings of work.

"He wasn't on his game," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "His fastball command was up in the zone a lot. The slider he just couldn't get a feel for. ... The great thing is he got through the game and kept the run total down."

Francisco Rodriguez made amends for serving up Lucas Duda's go-ahead home run in the ninth inning of Friday's loss, retiring the side in the ninth to pick up his 30th save and keep Milwaukee three games ahead of St. Louis in the NL Central.

Duda stayed hot for the Mets, picking up an RBI in the setback, while Chris Young doubled twice and Curtis Granderson homered and scored both New York runs. Duda has five RBI in his last five games.

Jonathon Niese (5-6) was charged with three runs on five hits in five innings to absorb the loss.

"Them getting those runs with two outs, it's frustrating," Niese said. "They hit it where we weren't."

Milwaukee leads the season series, 4-2, and has won seven of the last 10 meetings.
