National League Game Summary - Chicago at Philadelphia

(Saturday, June 14)

Final Score: Philadelphia 7, Chicago 4

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Domonic Brown stroked a three-run home run that helped power the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs in the middle tilt of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

Jimmy Rollins passed Hall-of-Famer Mike Schmidt for the most hits in franchise history with a single in the fifth to become the Phillies all-time leader with 2,235 career hits.

"It was definitely special," said Rollins. "I was more consumed with winning the ballgame than the milestone itself. It was going to happen at some point as long as I was on the field."

Chase Utley connected on a solo shot while Marlon Byrd went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored for the Phillies, who have won four of their last five contests.

David Buchanan (2-3) allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts in five innings to win his first game since his major league debut on May 24.

Edwin Jackson (4-7), who's struggles against the Phillies continued with a 1-6 record, was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- on eight hits and two walks in just 4 2/3 innings.

"I just have to get back to finding that rhythm early," said Jackson. "The main thing is keeping the ball down. Hitters are getting good wood on it. I just have to get back to the basics."

Luis Valbuena, Justin Ruggiano and Mike Olt each had solo home runs for the Cubs, who have lost five of their last seven.

Utley put the Phillies on the board in the first inning with a solo shot over the right-field wall.

Olt answered in the second with a solo shot of his own to deep left field to tie the game at 1-1.

Byrd led off the home half with a triple into the left-center field gap and scored on Carlos Ruiz's RBI base hit to left. Reid Brignac singled to put runners on the corners and Ben Revere dropped a two-out single in center that hopped over the glove of Junior Lake to score two and make it 4-1.

In the third, Ruggiano lined a solo homer with two outs to left to cut the Cubs' deficit to two. Valbuena recorded the third solo home run of the day for Chicago in the fourth with a shot to right to pull them within one.

Rollins' record-breaking single started the fifth. After a two-out walk, Brown smashed a homer to right to open up the Phillies advantage to 7-3.

Chicago cut the deficit to 7-4 in the eighth off Phillies reliever Jake Diekman, who allowed three consecutive one-out singles.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to secure his 15th save of the year.

Game Notes
