Description: Jose Iglesias is unlikely to play this season. The Tigers shortstop was recently diagnosed with stress fractures in both of his shins. SOURCE: James Scheml, MLive
Insight: Four to six months was his original timetable for recovery but now it's looking like it could be even longer before Iglesias is back to full strength. His terrific defense at shortstop will be difficult to replace. The 24-year-old finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting last season.

Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias is expected to miss most of the 2014 season because of a shin issue. SOURCE: Jim Bowden, ESPN
Insight: Iglesias was diagnosed with shin splints a few days ago but now the injury appears to be more serious. Though not a must-have fantasy player, Iglesias hit a respectable .303 last season while playing Gold Glove defense at shortstop. Free agent Stephen Drew should be getting a call from the Tigers at any moment.

3/14/2014 2:02:00 PM
Description: Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias is visiting another doctor Friday and is likely to start the season on the disabled list.
Insight: The former Red Sox and current Tigers infielder batted .303 last season with a .735 OPS in 350 at-bats and was looked on as a nice low-cost shortstop option for fantasy owners. You will have to be hesitant about choosing him at this point, or at least until we hear from today's doctor.

3/7/2014 3:18:00 PM
Description: Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias was back taking batting practice on Friday. He's been dealing with shin splints.
Insight: The former Red Sox and current Tigers infielder should be ready for the start of the season. He batted .303 last season with a .735 OPS in 350 at-bats.

10/12/2013 7:02:00 PM
Description: Jose Iglesias is back in the lineup at shortstop Saturday against Boston.
Insight: The former Red Sox and current Tigers infielder was benched for Jhonny Peralta in Game 5 of the Division Series. Peralta is playing left field on Saturday.

Description: The Tigers are hoping to have Jose Iglesias back in the lineup Friday against Miami. SOURCE: Jason Beck, MLB.com
Insight: He's missed the Tigers' last six games with a bruised hand. The 23-year-old is a leading candidate for the AL's Rookie of the Year award.

9/22/2013 11:01:00 AM
Description: Jose Iglesias' hand injury doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Insight: According to MLB.com's Jason Beck, the rookie shortstop is "nowhere close" to being able to field grounders. The Tigers may opt to hold him out for the rest of the regular season.

9/21/2013 4:11:00 PM
Description: A bruised hand will keep Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias out of the lineup Saturday against the White Sox. SOURCE: Tigers on Twitter
Insight: Iglesias has enjoyed a fine rookie season, contributing a .310 average while playing gold glove defense on the left side of the infield. Ramon Santiago will get the start in his absence Saturday night.

9/20/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias (hand) left Thursday's game after taking a fastball off his left hand and while X-rays came back negative he is doubtful for Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Insight: Iglesias is batting .310 this season (.276 with Detroit), but it's a bit deceiving as he provides little power (3 HR) or speed (5 SB).

Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias (hand) left Thursday's game after taking a fastball off his left hand but X-rays came back negative. SOURCE: Tom Gage, Detroit News
Insight: Iglesias came in hitting .125 (2-for-16) over his last seven games. He's hitting .280 since joining the Tigers from Boston, but with little power or speed.

9/6/2013 6:20:00 PM
Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias won't play Friday against Kansas City but he should be back for Saturday's game. SOURCE: Lynn Henning, Detroit News
Insight: Iglesias is battling shin splints. Ramon Santiago (.231, 1 HR, 11 RBI) will fill in at shortstop.

9/4/2013 9:45:00 PM
Description: Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias left Wednesday's game with shin splints, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com.
Insight: He's listed as day-to-day. The Tigers have off Thursday, so that might be enough time for Iglesias to feel better for Friday.

8/26/2013 9:34:00 PM
Description: Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias was back in the starting lineup Monday against Oakland.
Insight: He missed the previous two contests because of a sore elbow. Iglesias has hit .286 since joining the Tigers at the trade deadline.

8/26/2013 11:10:00 AM
Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias is questionable for Monday's game against Oakland.
Insight: Iglesias is dealing with a sore left elbow. Ramon Santiago would fill in at shortstop if Iglesias can't go, but he has no fantasy value.

8/9/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias is questionable for Friday's game against the New York Yankees.
Insight: He's out with a bruised toe. Ramon Santiago would fill in at shortstop if Iglesias can't go.

Description: Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias won't be in the lineup Thursday against the Indians. SOURCE: Jason Beck, MLB.com
Insight: He's out with a bruised toe. Ramon Santiago is filling in at shortstop.

7/31/2013 9:15:00 AM
Description: Boston infielder Jose Iglesias has been traded to the Detroit Tigers as part of a three-team trade in which the Red Sox received Jake Peavy and the White Sox received Avisail Garcia.
Insight: It's a great move for Boston to parlay Iglesias' three-month hot streak and strong defensive reputation plus three low-level prospects into Peavy. Iglesias is hitting .330 this season, but that has been boosted by a .376 BABIP even though his line-drive rate is just 18.4 percent. He gives Detroit insurance for Jhonny Peralta's pending suspension for his involvement with Biogenesis.

Hot6/21/2013 10:44:00 PM
Description: Boston infielder Jose Iglesias went 3-for-5 with a triple and two run Friday against the Tigers.
Insight: Iglesias is hitting .431 in 102 at-bats this season despite batting .257 in his minor league career. The infielder has been incredibly lucky with a .494 BABIP despite hitting line drives less than 19 percent of the time.

Hot6/16/2013 6:01:00 PM
Description: Boston infielder Jose Iglesias extended his hitting streak to 17 games Sunday versus Baltimore.
Insight: That's the fifth-longest streak in the majors this season. Iglesias (.438 AVG in 27 games) can play anywhere in the infield, which has allowed manager John Farrell to give him regular at bats even while Will Middlebrooks, Dustin Pedroia and Stephen Drew are all healthy. He hasn't displayed much power (one homer in 89 at bats) but fantasy owners looking to gain an edge in batting average should look no further.

6/15/2013 2:55:00 PM
Description: Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias has posted back-to-back two-hit games and will get the start at third base on Saturday over Will Middlebrooks.
Insight: Iglesias is batting .451 with a 1.080 OPS over his first 82 at-bats. With Middlebrooks struggling (.198), Iglesias should continue to see playing time.
