O's cap set with Jays

(Sports Network) - Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez can close out his second big- league season with three wins in four decisions when the Baltimore Orioles host the Toronto Blue Jays to wrap up a three-game set at Camden Yards.

The 29-year-old was 9-4 in 18 appearances - 15 starts - for the Orioles as a rookie last season, then went 8-7 in his initial 25 appearances this year - starting 23 times.

His four September outings have yielded two wins and a no-decision, including a 3-1 defeat of the Blue Jays on Sept. 15 in Toronto.

In that game, Gonzalez gave up a single run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings while walking no one and striking out two.

It lifted his career mark against the Blue Jays to 3-2 in seven games.

For Toronto, southpaw Mark Buehrle faces the Orioles for the 21st time in his 454th big league outing.

The Missouri native debuted with the Chicago White Sox the year Gonzalez turned 16 years old and reached a high watermark of 19 wins two years later in 2002.

He spent 2012 with the Miami Marlins and came to Toronto in an offseason trade.

Buehrle was the losing pitcher in the aforementioned Sept. 15 game against Baltimore and Gonzalez, which dropped his lifetime mark against the Orioles to 7-7.

On Wednesday, Jonathan Schoop homered in his major league debut and the Orioles snapped a six-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over the Blue Jays.

Schoop singled in his first MLB at-bat and hit a solo homer in his third, but the spark came a little late for the Orioles. They got their first win in a week one day after being eliminated from playoff contention in a 3-2 loss in 10 innings.

Ryan Flaherty hit a pair of two-run homers for Baltimore and Steve Pearce had a solo shot.

Orioles starter Bud Norris yielded three runs, seven hits and two walks in four innings with five strikeouts and T.J. McFarland (3-1) pitched an inning- plus for the win.

Esmil Rogers (5-9) was charged with six runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss. He gave up eight hits and a walk and struck out two.

The teas have split the first 18 games they've played in 2013, a year after the Orioles won the season series, 11-7.
