American League Game Summary - Boston at Oakland

(Friday, June 20)

Final Score: Oakland 4, Boston 3

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Coco Crisp's go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Oakland Athletics to a 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox in the second test of a four-game set.

Andrew Miller (2-5) hit both Kyle Blanks and Alberto Callaspo with a pitch with one out before Nick Punto struck out. Crisp then lined a base hit into right to plate Blanks for a 4-3 Oakland edge.

"He came up huge for us," A's manager Bob Melvin said of Crisp. "He's come through so many times, to an extent you almost expect it."

Sean Doolittle fired a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his 10th save of the season.

Josh Donaldson smacked a three-run homer for the A's, who have won six of their last seven games. Fernando Abad (2-2) tossed a scoreless eighth to record the victory.

David Ortiz had two hits and an RBI, while Mike Napoli posted two hits and a run scored for Boston, which has dropped the first two games of this series.

"We left a number of people on base. It's once again the story in this one," said Red Sox manager John Farrell.

Felix Doubront returned from the disabled list after suffering a left shoulder strain and surrendered three runs on two hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision.

Oakland opened the scoring with three runs in the first, but the Red Sox tied it after plating two runs in the second and another in the third.

Craig Gentry singled to begin the home first before Jed Lowrie grounded into a force out. Yoenis Cespedes then walked and Donaldson ripped his three-run shot over the scoreboard in left.

Napoli began the second with a single and following an A.J. Pierzynski strikeout, Jonny Gomes walked and Stephen Drew reached on a Punto throwing error at second to load the bases. Jackie Bradley Jr. then golfed a single into center to bring home Napoli and Gomes.

Xander Bogaerts walked to lead off the third, moved to second on Dustin Pedroia's groundout and scored on Ortiz's base hit through the hole on the right side to knot the contest.

The A's then left men on first and second in the third and fourth frames, while the Red Sox were unable to capitalize with runners on first and second in the fourth and with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Miller got Stephen Vogt to line out to end the seventh after the A's put runners on first and third with two away.

Game Notes

A's starter Brad Mills yielded three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and four walks over four frames ... Both teams went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
