National League Game Summary - Los Angeles at Colorado

(Thursday, July 3)

Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Colorado 2

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Juan Uribe's third hit of the night drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers opened a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies with a 3-2 victory.

Zack Greinke gave up the tying run in the bottom of the eighth, but Uribe's late RBI single salvaged Greinke's 11th win of the season, tying him with St. Louis' Adam Wainwright for the NL lead.

Greinke (11-4) scattered nine hits and two runs -- one earned -- over eight frames. He struck out eight and issued two walks, extending the streak of Dodgers starters walking two batters or less to a modern-day record of 37 consecutive games.

The loss was credited to LaTroy Hawkins (2-2) and dropped the free-falling Rockies to 2-15 over their last 17 games.

They rallied against a stingy Greinke in the eighth to even things at 2-2, as Charlie Blackmon led off the frame with a single and raced around to score when Justin Morneau hit one off the wall in right-center with one away.

Morneau legged out a triple, and Dodgers manager Don Mattingly walked to the mound for what looked to be a pitching change. Mattingly, however, stuck with his starter, and Greinke made the decision pay off by retiring the dangerous Troy Tulowitzki on a short flyout to left and striking out Nolan Arenado.

"The last couple of games he's been back to himself," Mattingly said of Greinke. "His stuff has been a little crisper."

Hawkins walked Matt Kemp on four pitches to start the ninth, and a productive groundout from Scott Van Slyke moved the runner in scoring position.

Uribe followed with a sharp one-hopper that got under DJ LeMahieu's backhand, and Kemp scored without a play at the plate.

Kenley Jansen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to post his 26th save and snap the Dodgers' two-game skid.

"We didn't play well enough to win," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "It takes a good, clean game to win."

The Dodgers manufactured a run in the third and fourth innings off Franklin Morales. Dee Gordon reached on a perfectly-placed bunt in the third and eventually scored on Adrian Gonzalez's two-out, opposite-field single to left, and A.J. Ellis' sacrifice fly an inning later plated Uribe, who reached on a double and advanced to third on a passed ball.

Morales, filling in for the injured Jhoulys Chacin, lasted five innings for Colorado and gave up two runs - one earned -- on four hits in a no-decision.

In the home fifth, LeMahieu singled to right and moved into scoring position on Yasiel Puig's error, and Josh Rutledge, pinch-hitting for Morales, split the gap in right to plate the Rockies' first run.

Game Notes

Since 1900, only the 2005 Twins' starters had a streak of 36 straight games having issued two or fewer walks ... Greinke improved to 7-0 against the NL West this season ... Chacin was placed on the disabled list earlier this week with shoulder inflammation ... Arenado, in his first game since May 23 due to a broken middle finger on his left hand, went 0-for-4 for Colorado, which opened its 10-game homestand on Thursday.
