National League Game Summary - Miami at New York

(Friday, April 25th)

Final Score: New York 4. Miami 3

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Curtis Granderson's RBI single capped a two-run ninth inning and lifted the New York Mets to a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins in the opener of a three-game set from Citi Field.

Steve Cishek (1-1) entered to close it out for Miami in the ninth, but Lucas Duda greeted him with a hump-back liner to left to leadoff the inning, then moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt from Travis d'Arnaud. Pinch-hitter Bobby Abreu followed with a lineout to left for the second out of the inning.

Omar Quintanilla represented New York's last chance and he fisted one down the left-field line that scored Duda and tied the game.

Cishek had converted a franchise-record 33 straight saves entering the game.

Pinch-hitter Kirk Nieuwenhuis slapped a double to left-center that put runners on second and third before Granderson ripped a single right passed Garrett Jones at first that scored Quintanilla.

"It's always great to help the team win one way or another," said Granderson. "Anytime when we can get (wins) on the board especially right now early on in a series and against teams in our division is always a good thing."

Jeurys Familia (1-2) earned the win for pitching a scoreless ninth. Zack Wheeler received a no-decision in the start for the Mets, striking out 10 over six innings and allowing one run on four hits with three walks.

David Wright and Daniel Murphy also knocked in runs for New York, which has won five of its last six.

Henderson Alvarez started on the bump for Miami and was charged with two runs on six hits with four strikeouts over six innings.

"It's a tough one. We had it lined up exactly how we wanted," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Cishek has done an unbelievable job. It was set up perfect, it just didn't happen tonight."

Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jones each had solo home runs and Marcell Ozuna added an RBI for the Marlins, who have dropped three of four and fell to 1-9 on the road.

The Mets got on the board with a two-run third inning. Eric Young Jr. reached on an infield single to lead off the frame, then stole second and moved over to third on a Granderson flyout. Wright followed with a single that plated Young, and Murphy knocked in Wright with a opposite-field double into the left-field corner.

Murphy stole third, however, was stranded when Chris Young grounded out to shortstop and Duda flied out to center to end the inning.

With runners at the corners and two outs in the top of the fifth, Ozuna poked a single to center that scored Derek Dietrich, which cut the deficit in half. Giancarlo Stanton then flied out to deep right for the final out of the inning.

Gonzalez Germen had no problems in the seventh in relief of Wheeler, facing the minimum number of hitters to keep a 2-1 lead intact.

Germen stayed in to pitch the eighth and struck out Stanton and Casey MeGehee for two quick outs. Germen thought he rung up Saltalamacchia looking to end the inning, but his 2-2 pitch was called a ball. Two pitches later, Saltalamacchia ripped an opposite-field blast to left-center that tied the game.

Jones followed with a homer off the foul pole in right that gave the Marlins a 3-2 lead heading into the home half of the eighth.

Game Notes

Alvarez has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his five starts this season ... The Marlins were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position ... New York was 3-for-9 with RISP ... Wright committed his first error of the season on the first play of the game.
