National League Game Summary - Milwaukee at Colorado

(Friday, June 20)

Final Score: Milwaukee 13, Colorado 10

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jean Segura, Khris Davis and Aramis Ramirez all had three RBI, and the Milwaukee Brewers survived a slugfest with the Colorado Rockies on Friday night at Coors Field, posting a 13-10 win in the opener of a three-game series.

Segura recorded the first multi-homer game of his career with a pair of solo shots and Davis added a two-run blast for the NL central-leading Brewers, who set a season high for runs scored in a game and matched a season high with 19 hits.

Justin Morneau and Corey Dickerson each homered for Colorado, which was coming off being no-hit by Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw on Wednesday.

Morneau knocked in five runs total, while Dickerson finished 4-for-5 with three RBI.

"Pitchers didn't get away with much tonight," said Colorado manager Walt Weiss.

The teams came out swinging, combining for 10 runs in the first two innings. Milwaukee began to pull away, but the game tightened once Colorado's bats woke up again.

"I know the ball carries well, but there were balls squared up all night long," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "It's amazing how many balls were hit hard."

Run-scoring singles in the sixth by Ramirez, Davis and Segura extended Milwaukee's lead to 11-6.

Brewers starter Marco Estrada (6-4) settled down after surrendering six runs over the first two innings and exited after yielding a two-out double to Charlie Blackmon in the bottom of the sixth.

Southpaw Zach Duke then entered to face the left-handed swinging Dickerson and gave up a two-run homer to right.

Ryan Braun, playing in his 1,000th career game, doubled home Scooter Gennett in the seventh to make it 12-8, but the Rockies closed the gap in the home half.

Brandon Barnes, who struck out three times against Estrada, followed Wilin Rosario's leadoff infield single with a home run to center off Brandon Kintzler.

Will Smith successfully navigated the bottom of the eighth, fanning Rosario for the final out with runners on the corners and preserving the two-run lead.

After Gennett scored his third run of the game on a Braun single in the ninth, Francisco Rodriguez retired the Rockies in order to notch his 24th save of the season.

The Brewers were relentless against Colorado rookie Christian Bergman (0-2). He was tagged for seven runs on nine hits while lasting just three innings in his third major league start.

Milwaukee jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as Jonathan Lucroy hit an RBI double and scored along with Carlos Gomez on a Ramirez two-bagger.

Morneau hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first and put the Rockies up 6-4 with a three-run blast in the second.

The seesaw battle continued as the Brewers retook the lead in the third on homers by Davis and Segura.

Gomez added an RBI single in the fourth.

Game Notes

Braun is the 12th player to play in at least 1,000 games with the Brewers ... Gomez extended his career-best hitting streak to 16 games, and he's reached base in 33 straight, tying Prince Fielder for the fifth-longest run in franchise history ... Estrada has allowed at least one home run in 14 of his 15 starts this season ... Segura last homered on May 5 and entered with two on the season ... The Brewers were 9-for-24 with runners in scoring position.
