(SportsNetwork.com) - The Milwaukee Brewers hope their start to the second half of the season goes better than the way the first half ended, as the NL Central leaders open a three-game road series against the Washington Nationals Friday night.

The Brewers lost 11 of 12 games from June 29-July 12 and halted a seven-game slide with Sunday's 11-2 rout of the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park. Wily Peralta allowed just an unearned run in seven innings for the win and scattered three hits.

Carlos Gomez went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Scooter Gennett added three hits, two RBI and scored twice for the Brewers, who have a one-game lead over St. Louis for division bragging rights. Cincinnati is 1 1/2 games off the pace in the NL Central.

"It makes the break a lot funner," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said of ending the losing streak. "If you lose today, you're not sure when this streak is going to end."

Elian Herrera finished a career-best 5-for-5 and scored three times for the Brewers, and Khris Davis added a solo homer and two RBI. The Brewers tied a season high with 19 hits.

Milwaukee is 28-19 on the road, going 9-5-1 in series play.

Kyle Lohse will take the mound for Milwaukee at Nationals Park and is 9-4 with a 3.26 earned run average. He has lost two starts in a row and previously toed the rubber in a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia, charged with four runs and seven hits in eight innings. He gave up two home runs.

Lohse has a 6-2 mark in 11 road starts this season and is 5-2 with a 4.75 ERA in 16 career meetings (14 starts) with the Nationals. The right-hander is trying to reach the 10-win mark for the fourth straight season.

Washington is tied with Atlanta atop the NL East standings and entered the break with two wins in three tries against Philadelphia.

The Nationals won the south Philly series with Sunday's 10-3 pounding of the hosts and starting pitcher Tanner Roark was splendid through seven innings, allowing one run and four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

Jayson Werth hit a three-run homer in the first inning and finished with four RBI, while Ryan Zimmerman belted a solo homer for the Nationals.

"Momentum for us early with Jayson hitting the homer," said Washington manager Matt Williams. "It set the tone really well for Tanner too."

Washington, which has won three of five games and is 28-19 in DC, will send ace Stephen Strasburg to the hill Friday and he is 7-6 with a 3.46 ERA. Strasburg is 1-0 in his last three starts and has posted consecutive no- decisions. In last Saturday's 5-3 win at Philadelphia, the right-hander gave up two runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Strasburg gave up seven runs in a loss at Milwaukee on June 25 and has given up a total of five since then. He has faced the Brewers twice in his career and is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA. In 11 home starts this season, Strasburg owns a 6-1 record to go along with a 2.38 ERA.

The Nationals won two of three in Milwaukee from June 23-25 and the lone loss was pinned on Strasburg.
