Description: Former Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was the recipient of this year's American League Comeback Player of the Year award.
Insight: Rivera (6-2, 2.11 ERA, 44 saves) had a great last season after missing most of the 2012 campaign with a torn ACL. His 652 career saves are the most in MLB history.

Description: New York closer Mariano Rivera won't pitch again this season. SOURCE: Joel Sherman, New York Post
Insight: Rivera will finish his career with a record 652 saves in 1,115 career appearances. It's unknown who will replace Rivera at closer though David Robertson seems to be the most likely candidate.

9/26/2013 10:17:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera retired all four batters he faced Thursday in his final game at Yankee Stadium.
Insight: Teammates Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte came out to the mound to take the ball from him with two outs in the ninth inning. Rivera started to tear up and the crowd gave him a long standing ovation. The Yankees lost the game 4-0 but Rivera's memorable exit won't soon be forgotten. By all measures, he is the greatest closer to ever play the game.

Cold9/8/2013 5:44:00 PM
Description: Asked to complete a six-out save, New York closer Mariano Rivera ran out of gas Sunday against Boston.
Insight: He let up a game-tying homer to Will Middlebrooks in the top of the ninth inning. Luckily for fantasy owners, the Yankees won in the bottom of the inning to give Rivera his fifth win of the season. Rivera owns a 3.86 ERA in six games against the Red Sox in 2013.

Cold8/11/2013 4:31:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera blew a third straight save chance for the first time in his career Sunday against the Tigers.
Insight: Miguel Cabrera took him deep for the second time in the series and then Victor Martinez hit one out to tie the game. However, the Yankees won it in the bottom of the ninth to get Rivera his third win of the season. Rivera had allowed two home runs all season prior to Friday, but he has allowed three in his last two appearances.

8/8/2013 9:59:00 AM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera blew just his third save of the season Wednesday against the White Sox.
Insight: Adam Dunn got to him for an RBI single with two outs in the ninth. The run was the first he's allowed since the All-Star break so fantasy owners have no reason to be concerned. The Yankees have lost four straight and are now just one game above .500. They need a lot of good things to happen if they hope to make it back to the postseason.

7/17/2013 12:32:00 PM
Description: New York closer Mariano Rivera was named All-Star Game MVP Tuesday night at Citi Field.
Insight: Rivera came onto the field to a standing ovation with his trademark "Enter Sandman" blaring over the stadium speakers. In his only inning of work, the 43-year-old got Jean Segura to ground out, Allen Craig to line out to left and then got Carlos Gomez to ground out to shortstop to end the inning. Rivera, who has already announced that he will retire after the season, is second in the AL with 30 saves in 32 chances.

7/7/2013 6:13:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera allowed a two-run homer to Adam Jones to blow a save Sunday against the Orioles.
Insight: It was just his second blown save of the season. Rivera's WHIP is high at 1.29, but he has a 1.89 ERA and 29 saves in his final season.

6/13/2013 9:53:00 PM
Description: New York closer Mariano Rivera was charged with his first loss of the season Thursday versus Oakland.
Insight: Rivera relieved Preston Claiborne in the 18th inning and allowed three straight hitters to reach base. The game ended on a Nate Freiman single to left field. Rivera (1.48 ERA) has been terrific all season so one tough outing isn't anything for fantasy owners to get discouraged about.

5/29/2013 4:33:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera blew his first save in 19 chances Tuesday against the Mets.
Insight: Rivera has been as good as ever this year, posting a 1.86 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP in 19 1/3 innings. Tuesday should be viewed as a minor hiccup and nothing more.

3/7/2013 4:15:00 PM
Description: Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has announced that 2013 will indeed be his final season in the major leagues.
Insight: Rivera was limited to just nine appearances last season after suffering a freak knee injury shagging fly balls at batting practice. Since converting to a full-time closer in 1997, Rivera has never posted an ERA higher than 3.15. Even at age 43, Rivera is still a top-five fantasy relief pitcher.

3/5/2013 10:03:00 PM
Description: New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera (knee) will make his spring debut Saturday against the Braves, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: We thought we might see Rivera Wednesday. The legendary closer has been building his way up to live game action this spring after tearing his ACL last May and is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

Insight: "I felt good," Rivera said. "I feel real good. Getting stronger and stronger." New York lost Rivera for the season to a torn right ACL on May 3. He pitched in just nine games with a 1-1 record, five saves, a 2.16 ERA and 0.960 WHIP but is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

Description: The Yankees and closer Mariano Rivera have agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBSSports.com
Insight: New York lost the 42-year-old Rivera to a torn right ACL on May 3. He officially informed the team of his intentions to return for 2013 at the beginning of November. There's never been any doubt that the future Hall of Famer would retain the closer role if he decided to come back, even if his fill-in Rafael Soriano didn't opt out of his contract.

11/10/2012 10:35:00 AM
Description: New York righthander Mariano Rivera threw 25 pitches off a mound on Friday, his first pitching work since tearing his ACL back in May.
Insight: With Rafael Soriano electing to become a free agent, the 42-year-old Rivera is expected to resume his role as the team's closer at the start of the 2013 season.

11/3/2012 3:48:00 PM
Description: According the the New York Post, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera (knee) informed GM Brian Cashman that he will return for the 2013 season.
Insight: Rivera tore his ACL back in May and was expected to return for the 2013 season until a report revealed that he was having second thought about coming back. The Yankees will have to negotiate a new contract with the all-time saves leader, as he is currently a free agent, but we expect them to hammer something out.

10/25/2012 6:44:00 PM
Description: New York closer Mariano Rivera told Yankees general manager Brian Cashman that he's unsure if he'll return to the team next season.
Insight: Rivera missed most of the 2012 campaign with a torn ACL. If the 42-year-old does end up retiring he'll end his career as the most prolific closer in league history. His 608 saves are the most ever by a major league pitcher.
