National League Game Summary - Washington at San Francisco

(Tuesday, June 10)

Final Score: Washington 2, San Francisco 1

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Doug Fister tossed seven scoreless innings and the Washington Nationals defeated the San Francisco Giants, 2-1, in the second installment of a four-game set.

Fister (5-1) allowed eight hits and one walk for Washington, which has won seven of its last eight games. Anthony Rendon and Adam LaRoche each had two hits, while Jayson Werth added an RBI single in the triumph.

"Guys are playing together. We're rolling, we're playing together," said Fister. "We've got a lot of momentum."

Madison Bumgarner (8-4) yielded two runs on eight hits and a walk over seven innings for the Giants, who have dropped two straight on the heels of their five-game winning streak.

The Nationals opened the scoring by plating a pair in the fifth.

Ian Desmond and Danny Espinosa singled to begin the frame and put runners on the corners. Fister popped out on a bunt attempt, but Denard Span lifted a sacrifice fly to left, which brought home Desmond. Rendon singled and Werth's base hit into left plated Espinosa for a 2-0 lead. Rendon was thrown out at third by Gregor Blanco on the play.

The Nats squandered a LaRoche leadoff double in the sixth. The latter of a pair of groundouts by Ryan Zimmerman and Wilson Ramos advanced LaRoche to third.

Desmond then bounced one to Michael Morse and Bumgarner beat him to the bag to end the threat. The call was overturned following a review.

Pablo Sandoval doubled to start the home sixth. Morse flew out and Blanco struck out before Brandon Crawford lined a single into right, but Werth threw Sandoval out at home.

"Werth made a great throw there," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

San Francisco put runners on first and second with one away in the eighth, but Tyler Clippard struck out Morse and Blanco flied out to center to end the frame.

Crawford smoked a leadoff triple into the gap in right-center and scored on Brandon Hick's groundout to trim the deficit to 2-1 in the ninth. Rafael Soriano then induced a pop out from Hector Sanchez and a fly out from Angel Pagan to notch his 13th save of the season.

Earlier, Washington left two men on base in the second after Fister struck out, while the Giants left a pair on base in the third and fourth innings.

Game Notes

Washington was 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while San Francisco finished 1-for-10 with RISP and left nine men on base ... Fister lowered his ERA to 2.68.
