Cubs name Mueller hitting coach

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs named former American League batting champion Bill Mueller hitting coach on Friday.

Mueller won the 2003 batting title as a member of the Boston Red Sox, hitting .326 with 19 homers and 85 RBI. He spent the last six seasons as a special assistant in the Dodgers front office. This will be his first full-time coaching job. The 42-year-old spent the second half of 2007 as the Dodgers hitting coach.

The Chicago Cubs today announced that pitching coach Chris Bosio, bullpen coach Lester Strode, catching and strategy coach Mike Borzello and staff assistant Franklin Font will remain on the coaching staff for new manager Rick Renteria.

Joining Renteria's staff for 2014 are Brandon Hyde as bench coach, Gary Jones as third base/infield coach, Mike Brumley as assistant hitting coach and Jose Castro as quality assurance coach.

The club has yet to name a first base coach.
