Hot9/17/2014 10:30:00 AM
Description: Braves left-hander Alex Wood needs to continue with his hot play, if Atlanta wants to stay in the playoff race.
Insight: Atlanta is hanging on by a thread, but that is no fault of Wood's. He is 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA over his past three starts. Wood probably deserves some more wins (10-10 record overall), but he has still continued to be an impact pitcher for the Braves.

Hot8/31/2014 7:57:00 PM
Description: Braves starter Alex Wood threw eight shut out innings and was relieved only for a pinch hitter as Atlanta scratched out a 1-0 victory over Miami on Sunday.
Insight: Wood's work finally paid off on Sunday. Wood threw seven quality innings in each of his last two starts but failed to earn a victory. The pitcher also allowed five hits, struck out 12 and no walks. The 23-year-old lowers his ERA to 2.92 and improves his record to 10-10.

Hot8/20/2014 9:55:00 PM
Description: Atlanta starter Alex Wood took a shutout into the eighth inning Wednesday at Pittsburgh, but he allowed the first two men to reach base and Jordan Walden allowed both of them to score.
Insight: Wood walked away with two earned runs on four hits and four strikeouts in seven innings, plus a no decision. The 23-year-old left-hander is 9-9 with a 3.05 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and 124 Ks in 130 innings this season. He's given up two earned runs or less in five straight starts.

Hot8/15/2014 10:36:00 PM
Description: Atlanta starter Alex Wood improved to 9-9 after tossing six innings of two-run ball against the Athletics Friday night.
Insight: Wood only struck out one batter after fanning 12 Nationals in 7 1/3 innings his last time out. The 23-year-old took his undeserved demotion to the bullpen in stride back in May and he's gone 4-3 with a 2.73 ERA and 57 Ks in 62 2/3 innings since he rejoined the rotation.

Hot7/20/2014 8:27:00 PM
Description: Atlanta starter Alex Wood struck out eight batters and gave up one run on three hits over six innings Sunday against the Phillies.
Insight: Wood (7-7, 3.24 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) has gone 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP and 27 Ks in 31 1/3 innings since he returned from the minors.

6/25/2014 10:51:00 PM
Description: Atlanta starter Alex Wood improved to 6-6 with Wednesday's win over Houston.
Insight: Wood kept the Astros off the scoreboard while only allowing three hits in seven innings. With Gavin Floyd (broken elbow) out for the year, Wood (6-6, 3.07 ERA) should be able to keep his spot in the starting rotation.

6/20/2014 5:16:00 PM
Description: Braves left-hander Alex Wood will return from the minors to start Wednesday against the Astros, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: Wood had a 3.00 ERA and a 44/9 K/BB over 45 innings in his first seven starts this season, but the Braves moved him to the bullpen to accommodate Gavin Floyd. Floyd fractured his elbow Thursday night, so Wood will rejoin the rotation and should be added in all leagues.

6/10/2014 5:22:00 PM
Description: The Braves have optioned left-hander Alex Wood to Triple-A Gwinnett to stretch him out.
Insight: Wood had a 3.00 ERA and a 44/9 K/BB over 45 innings in his first seven starts this season, but the Braves moved him to the bullpen to accommodate Gavin Floyd. He's posted a 4.70 ERA in 15 1/3 innings as a reliever, though he actually won more games out of the bullpen than he did as a starter. It's unclear when he'll be back or whom he'll replace in Atlanta's rotation.

5/18/2014 1:11:00 PM
Description: The Braves called an audible and kept left-hander Alex Wood in the bullpen while Aaron Harang started Saturday.
Insight: Wood was moved to the bullpen after starting on May 4 because manager Fredi Gonzalez wanted to keep Gavin Floyd on a set schedule following Tommy John surgery. He was initially expected to start on May 17, but the Braves had him throw 2 2/3 innings out of the bullpen on May 14. Wood has a 3.26 ERA and 52 Ks in 49 2/3 innings this year, so fantasy owners have lost a valuable starter for the time being.

5/9/2014 7:27:00 PM
Description: According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Braves left-hander Alex Wood will move to the bullpen for a brief time but will start on May 17 at St. Louis. Manager Fredi Gonzalez will make a decision regarding the rotation following that game.
Insight: Aaron Harang will take Wood's place in the rotation on Sunday against the Cubs. Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez wants to keep Gavin Floyd in the rotation so he remains on a consistent schedule following Tommy John surgery last year, and he doesn't want to use a six-man rotation so someone will be the odd man out after May 17. The 23-year-old Wood has a 3.00 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 44/9 K/BB in 45 innings this season, so fantasy owners would be losing a valuable starter if he's moved to the bullpen for an extended period of time.

5/9/2014 5:48:00 PM
Description: Braves lefty Alex Wood will officially be moved to the bullpen after Sunday's start against the Cubs, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez wants to keep Gavin Floyd in the rotation so he remains on a consistent schedule following Tommy John surgery last year. Wood has a 3.00 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 44/9 K/BB in 45 innings this season, so fantasy owners will be losing a valuable starter. We expect the 23-year-old to be back in the rotation at some point because he's simply better than Aaron Harang and Floyd.

5/8/2014 9:42:00 AM
Description: Braves lefty Alex Wood will start Sunday against the Cubs, but he is the most likely candidate to be dropped from the rotation, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez wants to keep Gavin Floyd in the rotation so he remains on a consistent schedule following Tommy John surgery last year. Wood has a 3.00 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 44/9 K/BB in 45 innings this season, so fantasy owners would be losing a valuable starter if he goes to the bullpen. We expect the 23-year-old to be back in the rotation at some point this season, probably in place of Aaron Harang.

Hot4/22/2014 9:37:00 PM
Description: Atlanta starter Alex Wood struck out 11, walked none and gave up one run on four hits over eight innings Tuesday against the Marlins, but Jose Fernandez was a touch better.
Insight: Wood (1.54 ERA, 0.97 WHIP) has lost two straight 1-0 decisions. The 23-year-old left-hander has 35 strikeouts in 35 innings so far.

4/17/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: Atlanta starter Alex Wood (8 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 7 K's, 1 BB) was a tough luck loser Thursday against the Phillies.
Insight: The only run he allowed came on a Ben Revere RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pitching dominated this series as Atlanta and Philadelphia combined for just two runs in the final two games.

4/1/2014 11:03:00 PM
Description: Braves 23-year-old left-hander Alex Wood allowed one earned run and struck out five in seven innings Tuesday against the Brewers to pick up his first win of the season.
Insight: Wood gets a lot of ground balls and allowed just three home runs as a rookie last year. He had a 3.54 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP and 54 Ks in 56 innings as a starter and finished with a 3.13 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP in 77 2/3 innings.

9/11/2013 6:39:00 PM
Description: After giving up 11 earned runs on 11 hits over his last two starts, Braves rookie Alex Wood will be skipped Thursday, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.
Insight: Atlanta will start veteran Freddy Garcia against the Marlins. The Braves want to get the 22-year-old Wood some extra rest after he threw 132 1/3 innings combined between the minors and majors this season, up from 52 2/3 last year with High-A Rome.

8/27/2013 10:09:00 PM
Description: Braves rookie Alex Wood walked four batters Tuesday against Cleveland, but he didn't give up a run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings to improve to 3-2.
Insight: Wood has gone 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA and a 35/10 K/BB in 37 innings over his last six starts. With Brandon Beachy going back on the DL with elbow inflammation, Wood will remain in the Braves rotation and should be owned in deeper mixed leagues.

8/11/2013 9:36:00 AM
Description: Braves rookie Alex Wood had his third straight strong start Saturday against the Marlins, going six innings, striking out seven and allowing no runs on two hits.
Insight: The lanky left-hander has gone 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP and 17 K in 19 innings over his last three starts. However, he's likely to return to the bullpen when Paul Maholm (wrist) returns next week.

6/4/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: The Braves brought up Alex Wood who had been mowing down Southern League batters this season. He was 4-2 with a 1.26 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and yielded one earned run or less in seven of 10 starts.
Insight: Unfortunately for fantasy owners, Wood will be put in the Braves bullpen because of their injuries and well-stocked starting rotation. He won't have much fantasy value until he gets in the Braves or some other team's rotation.
