Final Score: Miami 6, New York 5

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff Mathis drove in the go-ahead run during the eighth inning as the Miami Marlins defeated the New York Mets, 6-5, in the opener of a three-game set on Monday. Jordany Valdespin and Adeiny Hechavarria both scored and drove in a pair of runs for the Marlins, who have won their last two games. Sam Dyson (3-1) earned the win after recording one out in the seventh. Starter Jarred Cosart gave up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts over six innings. Wilmer Flores hit a two-run double, while Daniel Murphy, Travis d'Arnaud and Curtis Granderson each drove in a run for New York, which has dropped its last three games.

Final Score: Washington 4, Atlanta 2

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Strasburg overcame some bad history at Turner Field with seven scoreless innings and the Washington Nationals inched ever so close to clinching the NL East with a tight 4-2 victory over the sinking Atlanta Braves. Strasburg (12-11) came into the opener of this three-game series with an ugly 6.99 ERA in seven career road starts against the Braves, but the hard-throwing righty surrendered just five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven. Strasburg also added an RBI single while Wilson Ramos hit a solo homer for the Nationals, who trimmed their magic number for clinching the division to two. On the opposite end of the Strasburg's gem was Ervin Santana (14-9), who allowed two runs on just three hits and two walks over six quality frames.

Final Score: Chicago 1, Cincinnati 0

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Rizzo made a memorable return to the Cubs' lineup on Monday with a walk-off home run to give Chicago a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Rizzo, who had missed 18 straight games with a back injury, slugged a 1-0 pitch from Pedro Villarreal (0-1) to straightaway center to supply the only run in the opener of this three-game series. Rizzo's 31st homer of the year gave the win to Hector Rondon (4-4) for working around a one-out walk in the ninth.

Final Score: Los Angeles 11, Colorado 3

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Adrian Gonzalez drove in three runs and the Los Angeles Dodgers used an eight-run sixth inning to defeat the Colorado Rockies, 11-3, in the opener of a three-game set on Monday. Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer, Justin Turner drove in two runs with a double and Juan Uribe finished 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Dodgers, who have won eight of their last nine games against the Rockies. Jamey Wright (5-4) earned the win after allowing one run on two hits during the fifth inning. Starter Roberto Hernandez gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings of work. Wilin Rosario homered and Michael Cuddyer and Corey Dickerson each supplied an RBI for Colorado, which has lost its last seven games. Christian Bergman (2-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits across five-plus frames.

Final Score: Arizona 6, San Francisco 2

Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Trumbo hit a grand slam and knocked in five runs to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game set on Monday. Trumbo backed a strong outing from Wade Miley (8-11), who allowed one run on seven hits and struck out four in the win. A.J. Pollock had an RBI for the D-backs, who have won three straight on the heels of a seven-game skid. Brandon Crawford and Buster Posey each drove in a run for the Giants, who now trail the Dodgers by four games in the NL West. San Francisco has dropped three straight games overall. Ryan Vogelsong (8-11) was tagged for four runs on six hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings in the loss.

Final Score: San Diego 1, Philadelphia 0

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew Cashner tossed a two-hit shutout as the San Diego Padres blanked the Philadelphia Phillies, 1-0, in the opener of a three-game set on Monday. Cashner (4-7) stymied the Phillies throughout the evening, allowing singles in the fifth and eighth innings en route to his third-career complete game and shutout. Phillies starter Jerome Williams (3-2) was up to the task in opposing Cashner, going 7 2/3 innings and yielding an unearned run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
