Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak started off 6-for-13 with two homers and seven RBI but he's gone 6-for-36 (.167) with zero homers and 11 Ks since then.
Insight: Smoak also is 2-for-16 against Texas starter Yu Darvish, who will oppose the Mariners on Wednesday night.

Hot8/13/2013 10:41:00 PM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak went 2-for-4 with two RBI Tuesday against the Rays.
Insight: Smoak has experienced a renaissance since returning to the majors following a three week stint in minors. He's hitting .306 with 10 homers and 25 RBI over his last 43 games.

Hot7/14/2013 10:20:00 AM
Description: In 21 games since coming off the disabled list, Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak has hit .320 with five doubles, five homers, 14 RBI, a 16/9 K/BB and a .987 OPS.
Insight: Smoak hit .223 with a .683 OPS in his first three major league seasons and was hitting .240 with a .694 OPS when he suffered a strained right oblique in late May, but he has been a different hitter since returning.

7/4/2013 9:43:00 AM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak is batting .310 with three homers and a .956 OPS in 42 at-bats since returning from the disabled list.
Insight: The key prospect in the Cliff Lee trade with the Texas Rangers back in 2010, Smoak has hit just .228 with a .698 OPS across 1,650 big league plate appearances, so we'll need to see more before he becomes a fantasy option.

6/18/2013 6:20:00 PM
Description: M's first baseman Justin Smoak has been reinstated after a two and a half week stint on the disabled list.
Insight: He was nursing a strained oblique. Smoak has barely made a dent in fantasy this year, contributing just three homers in 46 games.

6/2/2013 12:29:00 PM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.
Insight: Smoak suffered the injury last week. The first baseman is a .225 hitter with 348 strikeouts in 1,412 career at-bats. There's no reason to hold him.

5/26/2013 11:18:00 AM
Description: Seattle first baseman Justin Smoak suffered a strained oblique Saturday against Texas. SOURCE: Ryan Divish, Tacoma News Tribune
Insight: Most oblique injuries require a stint on the DL. Fantasy owners won't miss him as Smoak is having a terrible season (.242, 3 HR, 8 RBI). DH Kendrys Morales would move to first if Smoak lands on the DL.

5/20/2013 9:58:00 AM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak is hitless in five at-bats versus Cleveland starter Scot Kazmir.
Insight: Smoak is hitting .254 for the season, but without much power (2 homers, 9 extra base hits) which simply isn't enough from a power position like first base. As the cornerstone to the Cliff Lee trade back in 2010, Smoak has never lived up to expectations and it's long past time to give up on him as a fantasy option.

7/24/2012 12:50:00 PM
Description: For those hoping that Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak would find his swing, he'll have to do it in the minors as the team sent him to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Insight: Smoak is hitting just .189 for the season with 13 HR and 38 RBI, but he's never lived up to the hype as a first-round selection in 2008 (11th overall). He was traded to Seattle from Texas in the six-player Cliff Lee deal.

7/2/2012 9:38:00 PM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak is not in the lineup for Monday's series opener against Baltimore.
Insight: The good news: Smoak broke out of an 0-9 slump with a double in his final at bat of the game Sunday against Boston. The bad news: Smoak is still hitting just .204 for the season.

Cold6/27/2012 7:07:00 PM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak extended his hitless streak to 17 at-bats with an 0-for-4 day Wednesday against Oakland.
Insight: Smoak has gone hitless in five straight games. He's hitting .118 in 76 at-bats since June 3.

6/21/2012 11:31:00 AM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak missed Wednesday's series finale against Arizona with a sore right knee but he's expected to be fine for Seattle's next game Friday night in San Diego.
Insight: Smoak (.220, 11 HRs, 31 RBIs) fouled a ball off his knee Tuesday and was given the day off Wednesday as a precaution. He should be good to go again after the Mariners' off day on Thursday.

Hot6/4/2012 10:38:00 AM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak is a lifetime .385 hitter (5-for-13) versus Angels starter Ervin Santana.
Insight: Smoak has blasted five homers and driven in 15 runs while batting .333 over the past 11 games. He's still not hitting for an overall high average, batting just .238 for the season, but he and the Mariners lineup are beginning to show some life.

5/31/2012 9:50:00 AM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak socked two homers and drove in six runs against Texas on Wednesday.
Insight: Smoak went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in the game. Even with the big night, he still has just a .674 OPS, but he's hitting .319 (23-for-72) with six homers and 17 RBIs since May 11.

4/29/2012 11:28:00 AM
Description: Seattle first baseman Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Toronto. No injury, just day of rest.
Insight: Smoak has three homers on the season, but doesn't consistently put the bat on the ball. He's hitting just .197 with 18 Ks in 71 at-bats. He'll have to improve if he wants to stay in fantasy lineups.

9/30/2010 8:00:00 AM
