New York Mets (48-54) at Milwaukee Brewers (58-45), 8:10 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - All of a sudden, the Milwaukee Brewers are streaking again.

Long-time ace Yovani Gallardo takes the mound on Friday night when the red-hot Brewers host the New York Mets in game two of a four-game series at Miller Park.

Milwaukee had been reeling through a 1-11 stretch that brought its lead in the National League Central to a flat-footed tie, but a four-game win streak has returned optimism to the Brewers.

All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy is 6-for-12 with three homers in his last three games overall and is 9-for-22 in his last five against New York. He's also helped shepherd a resurgent pitching staff that's accounted for a 1.75 earned run average in the last four wins.

Milwaukee hasn't won five straight since early April.

Gallardo hasn't won since June 19, but he can follow in the footsteps of Matt Garza, who'd left his previous outing after just one-third of an inning but bounced back with a one-run effort over eight innings in Thursday's opener with the Mets.

"The bigger thing was I kept this thing rolling," Garza said. "Our guys are swinging the bats well."

Gallardo is 0-1 with a bloated 6.17 ERA in his last four starts, which followed a stretch in which he was unbeaten in four outings with a sub-2.00 ERA.

He's won two straight against the Mets.

"We are not swinging the bats very well right now," New York manager Terry Collins said.

Lefty Zack Wheeler gets the call for the Mets in the midst of a four-start stretch that's seen him go 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA. He allowed one run in six innings of a Sunday start at San Diego, but got no-decision in a 2-1 New York loss.

He was a 12-5 winner in his lone career start at Miller Park in July 2013.

On Thursday, Lucroy, Ryan Braun and Khris Davis all homered and drove in two runs as the Brewers crushed the Mets, 9-1.

Seven of the Brewers' 10 hits went for extra bases, including a two-run triple by Jean Segura.

Lucas Duda homered for the Mets, who were coming off a series win in Seattle but have still dropped four of their last six.

For the second time in as many starts, Dillon Gee (4-3) lasted only five frames and surrendered a season-high six runs on six hits and a pair of walks.
