National League Game Summary - Colorado at San Diego

(Monday, August 11)

Final Score: San Diego 4, Colorado 3

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Yangervis Solarte's two-run homer in the seventh inning lifted the San Diego Padres over the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game series.

Yonder Alonso added a solo home run and scored twice for the Padres, who have won three in a row. Outfield prospect Rymer Liriano had a sacrifice fly in his MLB debut after being promoted earlier Monday from Triple-A El Paso.

San Diego starter Jesse Hahn allowed three runs on five hits with three walks over five-plus innings. Nick Vincent (1-2) tossed two scoreless innings to pick up the win.

"The bullpen has been really solid all year. It really has," Padres manager Bud Black said. "There are a lot of guys under the radar who are not known nationally but who are looked at in the industry."

Corey Dickerson hit a three-run homer for the Rockies, who fell to 46-72 on the season.

Jordan Lyles got the start for Colorado and gave up two runs on four hits with three walks over 5 1/3 innings. Boone Logan (2-3) gave up Solarte's homer to take the loss.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead on Alonso's homer in the fourth.

Dickerson's three-run homer in the sixth made it 3-1 Rockies. Justin Morneau and Nolan Arenado singled before Dickerson's blast to right.

San Diego got one run back in the bottom half. Alonso hit a one-out single, chasing Lyles from the game. Matt Belisle came in and Jedd Gyorko greeted him with a single. Yasmani Grandal walked to load the bases for Liriano, who hit a sacrifice fly to center.

The Padres took the lead back on Solarte's homer in the seventh. Pinch-hitter Abraham Almonte doubled and scored when Solarte smacked Logan's offering over the wall in left.

Vincent, Kevin Quackenbush and Joaquin Benoit combined to strike out the final seven Colorado hitters. Benoit recorded his sixth save.

"They came in and absolutely shut us down. They took complete control of that game late," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said.

Game Notes

Liriano, who missed all of last season after recovering from Tommy John surgery, was hitting .291 with 14 homers and 66 RBI between Double-A San Antonio and El Paso this year. He was hitting .452 in 16 games with El Paso.
