National League Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, August 30 (All times Eastern)

Milwaukee Brewers (73-61) at San Francisco Giants (72-62), 10:15 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Milwaukee - Mike Fiers (4-1, 1.54) San Francisco - Jake Peavy (2-4, 3.18)

(SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Fiers has been on a roll of late and looks to keep it that way when he toes the rubber for the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Fiers has won his last four starts to go along with a 1.29 earned run average and tossed seven innings of two-run ball in a 4-3 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday. He has allowed a total of four runs during his winning streak and will make his first career start against the Giants.

The right-hander is 1-0 in two games (1 start) on the road.

Milwaukee was hammered by the Giants in Friday's series opener to the tune of 13-2, as Wily Peralta gave up six runs in just three innings and Marco Estrada was reached for seven -- five earned -- in two innings of relief.

"We need to get him right and get him back," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said on Peralta. "They rocked a lot of hits off him, that's not a good sign."

Elian Herrera had two of Milwaukee's five hits and Lyle Overbay knocked in a run. The Brewers have lost three straight and six of eight games, and their lead atop the NL Central is still 1 1/2 games ahead of St. Louis. Pittsburgh is only three games off the division lead.

The Brewers are 1-3 on a nine-game road trip.

San Francisco has won four in a row and pulled within 3 1/2 games of Los Angeles for the NL West lead. The Giants also lead the wild card race.

Gregor Blanco hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBI, while Buster Posey had five of San Francisco's 19 hits and drove in three runs. Hunter Pence went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Angel Pagan posted a three-hit night for the Giants. Pence has hit safely in 11 straight games, while Joe Panik finished 4-for-6 with two runs scored.

"Occasionally you are going to have a game like this. It feels good," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "I think down through our lineup we have been swinging better."

Ryan Vogelsong tossed seven sold innings, surrendering just two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk for his first home win since May 24 against Minnesota. George Kontos tossed two scoreless innings of relief.

The last time the Giants won five in a row was from June 4-8. They are 53-15 this season when scoring first and have won six of the last seven at home.

Jake Peavy draws the start for the Giants and is 2-4 with a 3.18 earned run average in six starts with his new team since coming over in a trade with Boston. Peavy lost his first three starts with San Francisco, then won back- to-back appearances before losing to Colorado in Monday's 3-2 defeat.

Peavy gave up three runs -- one earned -- in seven innings of that one and is 3-13 overall with a 4.34 ERA. The right-hander and 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner has made 11 career starts against Milwaukee, going 3-4 with a 2.73 ERA.

Milwaukee won two of three meetings with San Francisco earlier this month at Miller Park.
