Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller cannot get out of fifth inning Tuesday night.

9/14/2014 9:48:00 AM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller held the Rockies to one run in six innings Saturday as St. Louis defeated Colorado, 5-4.
Insight: This is the fifth straight quality start for Miller. In hist last three starts, he has pitched 20 innings and allowed one run on 11 hits, struck out 14 and walked three. With the victory, Miller's record moves above .500 for the first time since June 29. He is 10-9 with a 3.75 ERA in 172 and 2/3 innings this year.

9/3/2014 4:36:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller was excellent Wednesday afternoon, holding the Pirates to just three hits and zero runs over seven innings of work.
Insight: Miller has struggled this year, going 8-9 with a 4.00 ERA compared to 15-9 with a 3.06 ERA in 2013. Miller had gone 13 starts since his last shutout effort. Unfortunately, Miller's performance didn't earn him a win as Pittsburgh starter Edinson Volquez was equally as good.

8/11/2014 10:03:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller took a beating Monday at Miami.
Insight: Miller allowed two homers to Giancarlo Stanton, including an estimated 470-foot shot to left-center field in the third inning, and he ended up giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings. Miller had given up five runs on 10 hits over 18 2/3 innings his last three starts, but inconsistency is nothing new for him. A 3.06 ERA, a 8.78 K/9 and a 2.96 BB/9 last year have given way to a 4.17 ERA, a 6.06 K/9 and a 3.91 BB/9 in 2014, not to mention he's allowed 1.14 HR/9.

7/31/2014 6:59:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller has given up four runs on six hits and posted an 8/0 K/BB over 11 2/3 innings since he rejoined the rotation.
Insight: Miller allowed three home runs in that span but the damage was limited because he kept runners off the basepaths. He walked at least one batter in every game this season prior to the past two starts. The right-hander is 8-8 with a 4.14 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP and a 81/55 K/BB in 121 2/3 innings.

Cold7/23/2014 4:59:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller will start Saturday against the Cubs, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: The Cardinals have decided to move Carlos Martinez back to the bullpen and will replace him with Miller, who was moved to the bullpen for rest on July 18. Miller has gone 0-3 with a 7.30 ERA in his last five starts and sits at 7-8 with a 4.29 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP this season.

Cold7/18/2014 5:44:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller will move to the bullpen indefinitely for rest purposes, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: The Cardinals can use four starters and still keep everyone on regular rest for the remainder of July. Miller's poor fielding-independent numbers -- he had a 3.42 ERA over his first 14 starts, but his FIP was 4.68 in that span -- have caught up with him. He's gone 0-3 with a 7.30 ERA in his last five starts and sits at 7-8 with a 4.29 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP this season.

Cold7/5/2014 11:38:00 AM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller makes his first start in July today against the Marlins after an absolutely dreadful June.
Insight: Miller (7-7, 4.10 ERA) delivered two quality starts out of six last month as carries a dreadful 8.16 ERA and 2.16 WHIP over his last three outings into this afternoon's game at Busch Stadium. Given the Marlins' hot hitting of late, he's not the best play right now.

6/25/2014 4:02:00 PM
Description: According to Jim Hayes of Fox Sports Midwest, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny expects Shelby Miller (back) to make his next start.
Insight: Miller (7-6, 3.75 ERA) walked five and allowed three runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings before exiting with back pain Tuesday at Colorado. The right-hander has gotten his HR/9 in check after allowing seven in April, but he still has a mediocre 6.34 K/9 and a terrible 4.42 BB/9.

6/24/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: St. Louis starter Shelby Miller had to leave Tuesday's game because of back tightness. SOURCE: Cardinals on Twitter
Insight: He came out after getting blasted for three runs and six hits in only 2 2/3 innings. Miller (7-6, 3.75 ERA) also allowed five walks. Consider him questionable for his next start Sunday against Los Angeles.

6/14/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller worked around four walks to allow one run over 6 2/3 innings Saturday against the Nationals.
Insight: Miller has been walking the tightrope all season; he's posted a 60/38 K/BB in 84 1/3 innings but has a 3.42 ERA. The right-hander has allowed just three homers in his last 50 innings after serving up seven taters in his first 34 1/3.

6/7/2014 5:13:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller hurled his second career shutout Saturday afternoon against the Blue Jays.
Insight: Miller (7-5, 3.59 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) held one of the best offenses in baseball to three hits in his nine innings of work after allowing 15 earned runs in his previous 17 innings. The 23-year-old has walked just seven batters and allowed only two homers in his last 33 innings after issuing 27 free passes and serving up eight home runs in his first 44 2/3.

5/17/2014 5:12:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller threw his best start of 2014 Saturday afternoon against the Braves.
Insight: Miller gave up five hits and one unearned run while striking out seven and walking two in seven innings. Miller has a 2.79 ERA this season, but his FIP is 5.35 due to a 6.97 K/9, a 5.05 BB/9 and a 1.39 HR/9. The right-hander has the tools to be better than that, but there's going to be some hard regression if he keeps putting so many men on base and allowing so many home runs.

4/30/2014 9:02:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller gave up three runs in six innings to beat the Brewers on Wednesday, but he also gave up two homers, walked three and had just one strikeout.
Insight: Miller has a 3.15 ERA this season, but he's walked 5.50 batters per nine innings and struck out just 6.82. He had an 8.78 K/9 and a 2.96 BB/9 last year. The right-hander's 6.18 FIP suggests he's been very fortunate so far and may soon implode if he doesn't get his walks and homers in check.

4/16/2014 9:43:00 AM
Description: Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller had his best start of the season Tuesday at Milwaukee.
Insight: Miller allowed three hits and one earned run while fanning seven batters in six innings. He came into the game with a 6.35 ERA.
