American League Game Summary - Kansas City at Chicago

(Saturday, September 28th)

Final Score: Chicago 6, Kansas City 5

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Chicago clubbed four home runs as the White Sox took down the Kansas City Royals, 6-5, in the third installment of the teams' season-ending four-game set.

Marcus Semien, Jordan Danks, Adam Dunn and Conor Gillaspie all went deep for Chicago, which improved to 10-8 against the Royals this season.

The win also assured the White Sox they would not lose 100 games.

"It's one of those things where it's not a big deal, but it is a big deal. You just don't want to lose 100 games," White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko said.

Erik Johnson (3-2) struck out four over 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. The young righty has won three straight starts.

Kansas City also scored all of its runs via the long ball, with Mike Moustakas, Billy Butler and Salvador Perez all delivering home runs.

Yordano Ventura (0-1) was tagged for four runs on six hits, including three homers, in four innings of work.

"He wasn't as sharp as he has been. Lot of homers. The ball was flying," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "You know, it was warm and kind of humid out there, and the ball was really flying."

Semien and Danks launched back-to-back homers to left in the second inning, giving the Sox an early 2-0 edge.

With two away an inning later, Dunn cranked a two-out, two-run shot out to center. Gordon Beckham singled to start the frame and scored on Dunn's 34th homer of the season.

Moustakas put Kansas City on the board with a solo shot to right with one out in the fifth. Johnson had held the Royals hitless to that point.

Butler's sixth-inning homer following Eric Hosmer's single to left brought the Royals to within a run, but the White Sox added some insurance in the form of Gillaspie's two-run homer in the home half of the seventh.

Louis Coleman started the inning on the mound for the Royals and walked Beckham before giving way to Tim Collins, who served up Gillaspie's long ball.

Perez belted a two-run home-run a half inning later to cap the scoring, as Addison Reed retired the side in the ninth for his 40th save of the season.

Game Notes

The White Sox improved to 3-6 at U.S. Cellular Field against Kansas City this season ... Semien went 3-for-4 ... Both teams stranded six runners on base.
