National League Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, April 21st (All times Eastern)

St. Louis Cardinals (10-7) at Philadelphia Phillies (7-11), 8:05 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: St. Louis - Jake Westbrook (1-1, 0.00) Philadelphia - Kyle Kendrick (1-1, 3.38)

(Sports Network) - Former first-round draft pick Jake Westbrook tries to make it two straight pitching gems on Sunday when he and the St. Louis Cardinals visit Citizens Bank Park to wrap up a four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 21st overall pick of the Colorado Rockies way back in 1996, Westbrook has 99 victories in a big-league career that began when he debuted with the New York Yankees in 2000.

He won a career-high 15 games with the Cleveland Indians in both 2005 and 2006, then won 13 with the Cardinals while posting a 3.97 earned run average in 174 2/3 innings.

Westbrook debuted for 2013 with a tough luck 1-0 loss at San Francisco on April 5 after allowing an unearned run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings.

He followed it up with a complete game five-hit shutout of Cincinnati on April 10 in which he walked four and struck out three in a 10-0 win.

He's 2-1 in five lifetime starts against the Phillies and 1-1 in three starts at Citizens Bank Park.

Philadelphia replies with Kyle Kendrick, who starts for the fourth time in 2013 and the third time at home.

He dropped a 13-4 decision to Kansas City on April 5 and defeated the New York Mets, 7-3, on April 10.

In those two starts, he allowed 16 hits and seven runs in 11 2/3 innings.

His one road start this spring saw him get a no-decision after seven innings of scoreless two-hit ball in the Phillies' 1-0 loss at Cincinnati.

Kendrick is 5-1 in eight lifetime games with St. Louis.

On Saturday, Lance Lynn struck out eight over seven stellar innings of one-hit ball to lead the Cardinals to a 5-0 victory.

Lynn (3-0) walked just three to earn his third win in four starts, while Trevor Rosenthal and Mitchell Boggs each spun an inning in relief to secure the shutout for the Cards, who have taken two of three from the Phillies.

"He had the heavy sinker working today and was able to jam it in there and establish that," St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said. "It made everything else better. It was a good day for Lance."

Allen Craig clubbed a two-run single as part of a four-run third, with Yadier Molina and David Freese each adding an RBI base hit to the rally. Carlos Beltran belted his third home run in as many days in the fifth to account for the final margin.

Michael Young extended his hitting streak to 11 games, but the Phillies managed just three hits as a team. Cliff Lee (2-1) was tagged for all five runs on seven hits and three walks over five frames for Philadelphia, which has dropped five of its last six.

The Phillies won the 2012 season series, five games to two. St. Louis won six of nine games between the teams in 2011.
