National League Game Summary - New York at Milwaukee

(Thursday, July 24)

Final Score: Milwaukee 9, New York 1

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Lucroy, Ryan Braun and Khris Davis all homered and drove in two runs as the Milwaukee Brewers crushed the New York Mets, 9-1, in the opener of a four-game series on Thursday.

Seven of the Brewers' 10 hits went for extra bases, including a two-run triple by Jean Segura, as the club followed up a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds with a fifth straight win at home.

Matt Garza (7-7) bounced back from a forgettable outing his last time out and allowed a run over eight innings to earn the victory.

Lucas Duda homered for the Mets, who were coming off a series win in Seattle but have still dropped four of their last six.

For the second time in as many starts, Dillon Gee (4-3) lasted only five frames and surrendered a season-high six runs on six hits and a pair of walks. Gee fell to 0-4 with a 7.66 ERA in four career outings against the Brewers.

Lucroy got the rout started with a solo homer in the first, and a pair of one- out walks in the second led to a big inning for the hosts.

Segura plated Davis and Mark Reynolds when he found the opposite-field gap in right and slid in with a triple, and Carlos Gomez and Lucroy added RBI singles with two away.

"It was a nice start again," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "Everyone's contributing, and that's good."

Davis doubled in Rickie Weeks in the third, then sent the first pitch thrown by Daisuke Matsuzaka in the sixth into the bullpen beyond the wall in left- center for a solo homer.

The only hit Garza allowed in the first six frames came in the third on Wilmer Flores' infield dribbler, but Duda got a hold of one in the seventh and crushed his 16th home run to deep center.

The blast was the only other hit allowed by Garza, who walked one and struck out four. The performance was a stark contrast to the shortest start of his career last Saturday when he recorded only one out and gave up five runs to the Washington Nationals.

"That's the best velocity I've seen him have continuously through a game in awhile," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "I think his last start probably upset him enough that he had a lot to prove."

In the seventh, Braun capped the scoring with a mammoth two-run moonshot into the second deck in left-center.

Game Notes

The Brewers are first in the majors with 69 first-inning runs, three more than the Mets ... Before Lucroy's homer, Gee had not allowed a home run to a right- handed batter since April 11 ... Gee's ERA has risen from 2.56 to 3.49 over his last two outings.
