Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rays.
Insight: Oscar Taveras is starting in right field. Craig was a .312 hitter with an .863 OPS over the previous three seasons, but he's hit just .242 with seven homers, 44 RBI and a .648 OPS in 388 plate appearances this year. In his last 15 games, Craig's gone 7-for-51 (.137) with 12 Ks.

7/7/2014 11:22:00 AM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig is a career 11-for-21 (.524) against Pittsburgh right-hander Charlie Morton.
Insight: Craig's impressive season of a year ago is a distant dream as he's batting just .249 with seven homers and 43 RBI. Perhaps this matchup can get him going

7/5/2014 6:00:00 PM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig posted his first multi-RBI game in two weeks.
Insight: Craig's batting average is down 60 points from last season and he's unlikely to reach his 2013 total of 97 RBI either. June's .597 OPS is why he doesn't play everyday, but he did hit home run No. 7 on Saturday.

Cold7/3/2014 1:32:00 PM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig is out of the lineup Thursday against the Giants. Oscar Taveras is starting in right field.
Insight: Craig is 3-for-16 (.188) lifetime against San Francisco starter Madison Bumgarner, he hasn't homered since May 29 and he is two for his last 18. The 29-year-old hit .307 or higher in each of the last three seasons, but he's batted just .252 with six homers, 40 RBI and a .663 OPS this year.

7/3/2014 12:32:00 PM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig hasn't homered since May 29, is two for his last 18 and has a poor matchup Thursday against the Giants.
Insight: Craig is 3-for-16 (.188) lifetime against San Francisco starter Madison Bumgarner. The 29-year-old hit .307 or higher in each of the last three seasons, but he's batted just .252 with six homers, 40 RBI and a .663 OPS this year.

6/14/2014 12:34:00 PM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig is hitless in nine at bats against Washington ace Stephen Strasburg with five strikeouts.
Insight: Craig batted at least .307 in each of the last three years but is hitting .249 this season. He's not likely to break out of the slump today.

6/11/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig has hit two homers in 12 at-bats against Tampa Bay starter Erik Bedard.
Insight: Craig is 5-for-12 (.417) against Bedard. He batted at least .307 in each of the last three years but is hitting .249 this season because his ground-ball rate is a career-high 54.5 percent. However, he should be in your lineup Wednesday versus Bedard.

5/11/2014 10:00:00 AM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig is a career .500 hitter (9-for-18) against Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton.
Insight: Craig batted .315 last season, but is hovering just above the Mendoza Line this season. This matchup may help.

Cold5/9/2014 10:25:00 PM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI Friday against the Pirates.
Insight: Craig went 2-for-20 in his first five games of May, but he had Wednesday off and the team didn't play Thursday. The extra rest seems to have done him well.

Cold5/9/2014 11:38:00 AM
Description: St. Louis right fielder Allen Craig hasn't had the season fantasy owners were hoping for. It's not going to get any better on Friday.
Insight: That's because he's recorded just one hit in 12 previous encounters with Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano. Craig is having a really hard time right now (two for his last 20) and should probably be benched in fantasy leagues until further notice.

Cold5/7/2014 3:23:00 PM
Description: Cardinals right fielder Allen Craig is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Braves.
Insight: A brief hot streak -- .471, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI from April 27-30 -- has turned into another slump for Craig. He went 2-for-20 over his last five games and is batting .202 this season after hitting .307 or better in each of the last three years.

Hot4/30/2014 7:19:00 PM
Description: After going 15-for-88 (.170) with one home run, five RBI and a 16/5 K/BB over his first 23 games, Cardinals right fielder Allen Craig has collected nine hits in 21 at-bats during a five-game hitting streak.
Insight: Craig went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and three RBI Wednesday against Milwaukee and has picked up five extra-base hits (2 HR, 2 2B, 1 3B) during his streak.

Cold4/26/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Avoid Cardinals outfielder Allen Craig on Saturday as he's hitless in 11 at-bats against Pittsburgh starter Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Craig has been horrible this season, batting .170 with one homer and five RBI, but after three consecutive seasons with a batting average over .300 we know he'll eventually come out of it. Just not in this unfavorable matchup.

Cold4/24/2014 6:46:00 PM
Description: Cardinals outfielder Allen Craig is hitting .179 with a .481 OPS this season.
Insight: Craig's GB/FB/LD percentage breakdown is .638/.188/.174 and he's hitting .206 on balls in play. He had a .450/.281/.269 percentage breakdown and a .368 BABIP last season. The decline is curious because his chase rate is way down and his contact rate on pitches in the strike zone has increased from 2013.

4/5/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Cardinals outfielder Allen Craig is 0-for-9 against Pittsburgh left-hander Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Craig is off to a slow start (.125), but is a career .304 hitter so will eventually turn it around. Its unlikely to happen on Saturday, however.

10/28/2013 6:44:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig has been added to the starting lineup for Game 5 of the World Series Monday against Boston.
Insight: Craig can barely run due to a foot sprain, but he has convinced manager Mike Matheny that he can play first base. He has gone 4-for-9 in the series.

Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig may have aggravated his foot injury Saturday on a play at the plate. SOURCE: Tom Ackerman, KMOX 1120
Insight: The team is reportedly "optimistic" about Craig's chances of playing Sunday in Game 4. If Craig does suit up, he'll likely be limited to pinch-hitting like he was in Game 3.

10/27/2013 10:31:00 AM
Description: St. Louis first baseman Allen Craig didn't start Saturday's game against Boston but his impact was felt during a crazy ninth inning that ended in a walkoff win for the Cardinals.
Insight: Batting for closer Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth, Craig slapped a double to left off of Koji Uehara to put the winning run 90 feet away. In the next at bat, Jon Jay hit a grounder to Dustin Pedroia and then chaos ensued. Pedroia gunned down Yadier Molina at home and then Jarrod Saltalamacchia tried to throw out Craig at third base. The ball got away from Will Middlebrooks and then Craig was awarded the game-winning run after it was ruled Middlebrooks obstructed his path to home plate. Craig, who could start at first base in Game 4, is hitting .375 for the series (3-for-8).

10/26/2013 4:54:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig (foot) is not in the starting lineup Saturday for Game 3 of the World Series against Boston.
Insight: The game is in St. Louis, so Craig cannot DH like he did in the first two games. Craig did some fielding work Saturday and might be able to play first base in Games 4 and 5.

10/23/2013 4:30:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig will hit cleanup Wednesday in his return from a foot injury.
Insight: He's DHing. The Cardinals have said that Matt Adams will remain at first base when the series shifts back to St. Louis for Games 3-5.
