Description: Cardinals outfielder Allen Craig is 0-for-9 against Pittsburgh left-hander Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Craig is off to a slow start (.125), but is a career .304 hitter so will eventually turn it around. Its unlikely to happen on Saturday, however.

10/28/2013 6:44:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig has been added to the starting lineup for Game 5 of the World Series Monday against Boston.
Insight: Craig can barely run due to a foot sprain, but he has convinced manager Mike Matheny that he can play first base. He has gone 4-for-9 in the series.

Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig may have aggravated his foot injury Saturday on a play at the plate. SOURCE: Tom Ackerman, KMOX 1120
Insight: The team is reportedly "optimistic" about Craig's chances of playing Sunday in Game 4. If Craig does suit up, he'll likely be limited to pinch-hitting like he was in Game 3.

10/27/2013 10:31:00 AM
Description: St. Louis first baseman Allen Craig didn't start Saturday's game against Boston but his impact was felt during a crazy ninth inning that ended in a walkoff win for the Cardinals.
Insight: Batting for closer Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth, Craig slapped a double to left off of Koji Uehara to put the winning run 90 feet away. In the next at bat, Jon Jay hit a grounder to Dustin Pedroia and then chaos ensued. Pedroia gunned down Yadier Molina at home and then Jarrod Saltalamacchia tried to throw out Craig at third base. The ball got away from Will Middlebrooks and then Craig was awarded the game-winning run after it was ruled Middlebrooks obstructed his path to home plate. Craig, who could start at first base in Game 4, is hitting .375 for the series (3-for-8).

10/26/2013 4:54:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig (foot) is not in the starting lineup Saturday for Game 3 of the World Series against Boston.
Insight: The game is in St. Louis, so Craig cannot DH like he did in the first two games. Craig did some fielding work Saturday and might be able to play first base in Games 4 and 5.

10/23/2013 4:30:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig will hit cleanup Wednesday in his return from a foot injury.
Insight: He's DHing. The Cardinals have said that Matt Adams will remain at first base when the series shifts back to St. Louis for Games 3-5.

Description: St. Louis first baseman Allen Craig has been added to the team's World Series roster and is expected to start at DH Wednesday in Game 1 against Boston. SOURCE: Bill Shaikin, Los Angeles Times
Insight: Craig, out since September 4th with a foot injury, could be the Cardinals' X-factor. The 29-year-old's .454 batting average with runners in scoring position this season was easily the best in MLB.

10/20/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig (foot) is expected to make the team's World Series roster, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Craig's Lisfranc injury is improving daily and he was even able to face live pitching in a simulated game on Friday. He'll DH for Games 1 and 2 when the Cardinals have to play at Boston and will likely come off the bench Games 3, 4 and 5.

Description: The long-awaited return of Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig could be coming in the World Series. SOURCE: St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Insight: Allen Craig's Lisfranc injury is improving daily and he was even able to face live pitching in a simulated game on Friday. It makes sense to slot him in as the DH for Games 1 and 2 when the Cardinals have to play in an American League ballpark.

10/11/2013 6:36:00 PM
Description: St. Louis first baseman Allen Craig (foot) has been cleared for increased baseball activity, according to Brian Stull of 101 ESPN St. Louis.
Insight: That doesn't include running, however. Craig has been ruled out for the NLCS and is a longshot to play in the World Series if the Cardinals make it.

10/10/2013 3:14:00 PM
Description: St. Louis first baseman Allen Craig won't be available for the NLCS. SOURCE: Derrick Goold, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Insight: There was speculation that Craig could see some at bats as a pinch-hitter but he still isn't close to returning from a Lisfranc injury. Unless the Cards make it to the World Series and want to use him as a DH, his season is likely over.

10/10/2013 10:11:00 AM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig hopes that he'll be ready for the NLCS against Los Angeles. SOURCE: St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Insight: Don't hold your breath. Lisfranc injuries are tough to come back from and earlier this month GM John Mozeliak said that Craig had almost no chance of returning before the end of the postseason. With Matt Adams playing some of the best baseball of his career, the Cardinals have no need to rush Craig back into the starting lineup. At best, he'll be a pinch-hitter.

10/3/2013 12:29:00 PM
Description: St. Louis GM John Mozeliak thinks first baseman Allen Craig is a longshot to play in the playoffs. SOURCE: Tim McKernan, InsideSTL.com
Insight: Craig has been on the shelf with a Lisfranc injury for almost a month. Although having Craig available would be a nice touch, it's not crippling to the Cardinals' playoff chances, especially when you consider how well Matt Adams has played in his absence (.315, 8 HR, 15 RBI in September).

9/27/2013 10:45:00 PM
Description: According to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said Friday that first baseman Allen Craig (foot) is "very doubtful" for the NLDS.
Insight: Craig's foot sprain was reevaluated Friday and obviously is not healing quickly enough for him to be ready for the first round of the playoffs. He'll finish the 2013 season hitting .315 with 13 homers, 97 RBI, 71 runs and an .830 OPS in 134 games. Matt Adams, who has had a strong month of September, will continue to start at first base and hit in the middle of the order for St. Louis.

9/21/2013 6:34:00 PM
Description: According to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said first baseman Allen Craig is "probably" not going to be back by the end of the regular season.
Insight: Craig will be reevaluated at the end of next week to see how his foot sprain is progressing. He's hitting .315 with 13 homers, 97 RBI, 71 runs and an .830 OPS in 134 games.

9/19/2013 11:37:00 AM
Description: According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig (foot) is not expected to play during the team's current road trip.
Insight: That means the earliest he'll return is Monday against the Nationals, but we aren't optimistic. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Craig could miss the rest of the regular season.

9/10/2013 9:17:00 PM
Description: According to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig's reevaluation has been pushed back to Thursday.
Insight: The team didn't provide a reason as to why the examination was pushed back. Craig suffered a sprained left foot last Wednesday but had his walking boot removed Sunday.

9/5/2013 9:06:00 PM
Description: Allen Craig's MRI came back clean. SOURCE: Derrick Goold, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Insight: The Cardinals 1B/RF sprained his foot during Wednesday's win over Cincinnati. He'll be in a walking boot for the next couple days, which makes it unlikely that we'll see him this weekend against the Pirates.

9/4/2013 9:43:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig exited Wednesday's game and was diagnosed with a left foot sprain, according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com.
Insight: Craig will be reevaluated Thursday. The first baseman hurt his foot while trying to avoid running into the first base umpire after an infield single. He was able to walk off under his own power.

8/26/2013 10:09:00 PM
Description: St. Louis outfielder/first baseman Allen Craig spoiled the Reds' night by hitting a go-ahead grand slam Monday at Busch Stadium.
Insight: Believe it or not, that was Craig's first career grand slam. Craig is hitting an other-worldly .452 with runners in scoring position this season (56-for-124).
