National League Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, June 14 (All times Eastern)

San Diego Padres (28-39) at New York Mets (30-37), 4:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: San Diego - Jesse Hahn (0-1, 9.82) New York - Zack Wheeler (2-6, 4.19)

(SportsNetwork.com) - Even though this will be Jesse Hahn's first road start of his major league career, the 23-year-old right-hander figures to get some fan support when he leads the Padres against the New York Mets Saturday afternoon.

A native of Norwich, CT, Hahn played at Fitch Senior High School in Groton. He was a high school teammate of Mets right-hander Matt Harvey.

Hahn, who was a sixth-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech in 2010, made his big league debut June 3 at home against Pittsburgh. He was roughed up for four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 frames of a 4-1 defeat.

Zack Wheeler, who has yet to win at home since Aug. 20, 2013 against Atlanta, starts today for the Mets. Wheeler has gone 0-4 in his last seven appearances at Citi Field. On Sunday, the righty gave up six hits and four runs in a career-low 3 2/3 innings of a 6-4 loss at San Francisco.

Wheeler has faced the Padres one other time. On Aug. 15 last season he piled up a career-best 12 strikeouts over six solid innings, but didn't get a decision despite allowing just one run on seven hits.

Last night, Bobby Abreu went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Mets to a 6-2 win. Abreu's vintage night at the plate backed a classic performance on the mound from Bartolo Colon, who set down 19 of the final 20 batters he faced to earn his fourth straight winning decision.

Colon (6-5) gave up two runs on four hits while fanning seven over 7 1/3 innings of work as New York earned just its second win in its last 10 games.

Andrew Cashner (2-6), in his second start since returning from the disabled list, was tagged for four runs on eight hits over six innings for the Padres, losers of five straight.

Rene Rivera accounted for all of San Diego's offense when he uppercutted a Colon offering over the wall in left for a two-run homer in the second frame.

The 41-year-old Colon bounced back by retiring 18 in a row, and Abreu, who turned 40 in March, sparked the New York offense.

The Mets have won six of their past seven at home versus the Padres.
