Description: Former Brewers and Mets righthander Shaun Marcum has agreed to a minor league deal with Cleveland. SOURCE: Jordan Bastian, MLB.com
Insight: Marcum was dreadful last season, finishing with a 1-10 record in 14 appearances. We wouldn't rule out a bounceback year in 2014, however, as Marcum owns a respectable 3.88 ERA in 188 career appearances.

7/9/2013 7:33:00 PM
Description: Mets pitcher Shaun Marcum will miss the rest of the season due to thoracic outlet syndrome, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.
Insight: Marcum has numbness in his right hand caused by an artery blockage. He'll have surgery next Monday and will finish the season 1-10 with a 5.29 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP in 14 appearances (12 starts).

7/7/2013 4:13:00 PM
Description: The Mets are discussing skipping Shaun Marcum's next start to give him more rest, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNY.com.
Insight: Marcum has been dealing with upper back soreness and felt numbness in his pitching hand during his start Saturday. He could be placed on the DL if it doesn't improve after rest. The right-hander is 1-10 with a 5.29 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP this season, so it's not like fantasy owners will miss him.

7/3/2013 5:51:00 PM
Description: Mets pitcher Shaun Marcum (back) is expected to make his next start.
Insight: Marcum has been dealing with upper back soreness, but he has no structural damage. He's just 1-9 with a 5.03 ERA this season.

6/26/2013 10:56:00 PM
Description: It took him a few months but Mets righthander Shaun Marcum finally has his first win of the season.
Insight: Marcum (1-9, 5.08 ERA) was outstanding Wednesday versus the White Sox. In eight scoreless innings, all he allowed were four hits and a pair of walks. He's still miles away from being relevant in fantasy but at least he's headed in the right direction.

6/15/2013 5:59:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Shaun Marcum's spot in the rotation could be in jeopardy, according to SNY.
Insight: Marcum allowed six earned runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Cubs to drop to 0-8. The right-hander has a 5.43 ERA. His best outing of the season was actually a relief appearance on June 8, when he threw eight innings of one-run ball in a 20-inning game.

5/16/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Mets starter Shaun Marcum took a step in the right direction Wednesday with his first quality start of the season. He allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) in 6 2/3 innings.
Insight: Marcum lost the game and dropped to 0-4, but his start is certainly a positive development. He allowed 24 hits and 14 earned runs over his first 14 2/3 innings this season after missing most of April with a neck strain.

Cold5/10/2013 10:25:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Shaun Marcum is 0-3 with an 8.59 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP in four starts since returning from the DL.
Insight: Marcum spent most of April on the DL with a neck strain and has been hit hard upon his return. He allowed nine hits and six runs in 4 2/3 innings against Pittsburgh in his latest outing Friday.

4/23/2013 4:50:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Shaun Marcum (neck) will make his debut with the team Saturday. SOURCE: Anthony DiComo, MLB.com
Insight: Marcum has been rehabbing from a neck strain since spring training. The right-hander has posted an ERA under four in each of the last four seasons and will be a solid fantasy option while he's healthy.

4/18/2013 5:44:00 PM
Description: According to Marc Carig of Newsday, Mets starter Shaun Marcum (neck) threw 41 pitches in an extended spring training game Thursday and didn't allow a hit or walk in four innings.
Insight: Marcum needs to get that pitch count up before he can return to action, but this is a good step forward.

4/14/2013 4:14:00 PM
Description: According to Marc Carig of Newsday and Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, "there's a chance" Mets starter Shaun Marcum (neck) will be ready to pitch next Sunday.
Insight: Marcum needs to get through a "regular-type" start on Tuesday before he can be cleared, according to Rubin, which means around five innings Tuesday in a simulated game. He could be ready to go next Sunday without needing a rehab start.

4/7/2013 3:59:00 PM
Description: According to Mets.com, Mets manager Terry Collins estimated that a best-case scenario is that Shaun Marcum (neck) will return in mid- to late-April.
Insight: Marcum hasn't throw a bullpen session in more than two weeks, so he'll need time to build up his arm, but he'll have to wait for the nerve inflammation in his neck to subside before he starts that process. We're guessing that mid-April is highly unlikely.

4/4/2013 6:32:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Shaun Marcum has been diagnosed with nerve inflammation in his neck. SOURCE: Marc Carig, Newsday
Insight: Marcum was recently placed on the DL with an injured shoulder/neck. He's a lock to produce a sub-four ERA if he can stay healthy, but he hasn't been able to do that in the last few seasons. He'll rest for 48 hours after having injections in his neck Thursday.

4/2/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Shaun Marcum was unable to pitch a simulated game Tuesday due to neck pain and will remain on the DL through Sunday, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Insight: Marcum was recently placed on the DL with an injured shoulder/neck. He's a lock to produce a sub-four ERA if he can stay healthy, but he hasn't been able to do that in the last few seasons. Aaron Laffey is likely to start Sunday, but Collin McHugh is also an option.

4/1/2013 3:47:00 PM
Description: ESPN New York reports that Mets starter Shaun Marcum could make his season debut Sunday against the Marlins.
Insight: Marcum was recently placed on the DL with an injured neck. He's a lock to produce a sub-four ERA if he can stay healthy.

3/27/2013 5:36:00 PM
Description: According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com, the Mets are going to try to get Shaun Marcum (neck) ready for the season without placing him on the disabled list.
Insight: Marcum has been dealing with discomfort in his neck and shoulder area but he doesn't have any structural damage. He'll throw 75 pitches in a minor league game at some point and try to start the fifth or sixth game of the season.

3/26/2013 5:28:00 PM
Description: Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed Tuesday that Shaun Marcum's neck discomfort will be treated with anti-inflammatories, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.
Insight: Marcum doesn't have an structural damage in his shoulder or neck but he is unlikely to start the season with the team. He just hasn't had enough work this spring to avoid the DL.

3/20/2013 7:51:00 PM
Description: Mets GM Sandy Alderson said that the cortisone shot Shaun Marcum had in his right shoulder Wednesday was "largely precautionary" and he doesn't expect the righty to end up on the DL at this point, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.
Insight: Marcum has a right shoulder impingement and appeared to be in doubt for Opening Day but Alderson has erased any of those concerns for now. We'll see how Marcum responds to the shot.

3/20/2013 7:03:00 PM
Description: New York starter Shaun Marcum has a right shoulder impingement and had a cortisone shot Wednesday, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.
Insight: This puts Marcum in doubt for Opening Day. Marcum has dealt with a shoulder issue in each of the last two springs. Aaron Laffey would replace Marcum in the rotation if he can't make his first start.

3/3/2013 2:47:00 PM
Description: New York starter Shaun Marcum is set to pitch Tuesday against the Marlins. He's been taking time off to strengthen his shoulder. SOURCE: Mets.com
Insight: Marcum isn't the flashiest starting pitcher you'll encounter on draft day but he is one of the most consistent. Marcum has compiled an ERA lower than 3.8 in each of his last four seasons and has only had a losing record once since making his debut in 2005.
