Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit allowed his first earned run of the World Series on Tuesday.
Insight: Petit relieved starter Jake Peavy with the bases loaded and one out in the second. It was not an ideal situation for Bruce Bochy to put in Petit. He is a spot starter/long relief guy, so he does much better coming in at the beginning of an inning rather than with runners on base. Petit allowed three hits to the first three batters he faced as five more runs scored, two of which were charged to him.

Hot10/26/2014 9:05:00 AM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit was a key to the Giants victory Saturday night with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Insight: The Giants bullpen came through with a total of 6 1/3 innings of scoreless ball and the San Francisco offense came to life late. Wasn't it the Royals bullpen that was to be "untouchable" in this series?

9/21/2014 9:18:00 AM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit pitched five 1/3 innings, allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits, struck out seven and walked three in a loss to the Padres.
Insight: Not a bad start by any means, but San Diego's Andrew Cashner outpitched Petit with eight shutout innings. The Giants did tag Cashner for two runs in the ninth, but the Padres held on to win. Petit has lost his last two starts and is 5-5 with a 3.63 ERA.

Hot9/14/2014 7:37:00 PM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs, but he fell victim to Clayton Kershaw.
Insight: Petit threw his second straight quality start, but Kershaw outpitched him. Petit finished with eight strikeouts and no walks. We expect Petit to get another chance to start next week.

Hot8/29/2014 8:06:00 PM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit will make another start for the Giants on Tuesday against the Rockies.
Insight: Giants manager Bruce Bochy will more than likely ride out Petit's hot streak by keeping him in the starting rotation. If he pitches well in the hitter-friendly Coors Field, then we expect him to keep Tim Lincecum's spot in the rotation for the rest of the season.

Hot8/29/2014 11:53:00 AM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit started on Thursday in place of Tim Lincecum and went six innings yielding four hits and one run with nine strikeouts.
Insight: Giants manager Bruce Bochy has said he will get another start. He's worth adding based on his first performance.

8/28/2014 6:40:00 PM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit started on Thursday in place of Tim Lincecum. Petit came into the game having retired his last 38 batters over the course of seven relief appearances. Petit retired the first eight batters to set a new major league record of 46 straight hitters retired. who has thrown 12 1/3 perfect innings in a row while striking out 16 batters in that span, will replace Tim Lincecum in the rotation.
Insight: Petit went on to pitch six innings and gave up one run in the Giants victory. Despite breaking the record, Petit is not guaranteed to start again, so his fantasy value remains limited. We expect that he will get at least one more chance to start, but check back in the next few days to make sure.

8/25/2014 8:47:00 PM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit, who has thrown 12 1/3 perfect innings in a row while striking out 16 batters in that span, will replace Tim Lincecum in the rotation.
Insight: Petit last started on July 22 and allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings at Philadelphia. He has a 6.32 ERA in six starts and a 1.83 ERA over 27 relief appearances this season, so there's little reason to get excited about him in most leagues.

5/31/2014 9:48:00 PM
Description: Giants right-hander Yusmeiro Petit pitched well in Saturday's loss to St. Louis.
Insight: Petit (3-3, 4.60 ERA) kept San Francisco in the game by allowing two hits and one run over six innings. He should get at least a few more turns in the starting rotation while Matt Cain recovers from a strained hamstring.

4/30/2014 10:27:00 AM
Description: San Francisco right-hander Yusmeiro Petit pitched well in an emergency start Tuesday against the Padres.
Insight: Petit (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 K's) was filling in for Matt Cain, who had to sit out with an injured finger. It was probably a one-time thing for Petit, as Cain is expected to make his next start. Petit (2-1, 2.61 ERA) made seven starts for the Giants during the 2013 season.

2/10/2010 3:36:00 PM
Description: Petit cleared waivers and was sent down to Triple-A Tacoma by the Mariners.
Insight: Petit had been designated for assignment last week but found no takers and will now start the season in Triple-A. (SportsBuff.com)

2/7/2010 10:26:00 AM
Description: MLB.com reports that the Mariners have designated Petit for assignment.
Insight: The Petit move was made to make room for Erik Bedard. Petit is still only 24 so another team is likely to take a chance on him. (SportsBuff.com)

8/22/2009 3:20:00 PM
Description: Petit on Friday allowed four hits in six innings after giving up a total of 10 earned runs in his previous two starts.
Insight: Petit fell to 2-8 on the season despite pitching very well Friday. He also lost for the fifth time in seven starts. (SportsBuff.com)
