Duda's HR lifts Mets past Brewers

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Duda capped his incredible series with a two-run homer on Sunday and Jacob deGrom pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in the New York Mets' 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Duda's recent power surge helped the Mets leave Milwaukee with a series split and finish a 10-game road trip with a 5-5 mark. He homered three times in four games against the Brewers and drove in six runs.

"He's had a tremendous road trip," said Mets manager Terry Collins. "You certainly can't say enough about the way he's hit the ball."

DeGrom, meanwhile, has been one of the best pitchers in the majors this month and Sunday was no different. The rookie right-hander surrendered just four hits with a pair of walks.

DeGrom (5-5) has won his last four starts, yielding just two runs with 30 strikeouts during that stretch.

Chris Young doubled twice for the Mets, doing so for the second straight game.

Jimmy Nelson (1-2) pitched well for the Brewers despite the loss, going seven innings of two-run ball with six strikeouts. Nelson also picked up his first career hit.

"I was alright, I kept us in it," Nelson said. "I made pitches when I needed to, except for the one to Duda. I just got too much of the plate and he did what he was supposed to with it."

Duda broke a scoreless draw in the sixth inning. Daniel Murphy led off the frame with a double to center and two batters later, Duda belted a no-doubter to the second deck in right.

Singles by Khris Davis and Jean Segura in the seventh chased deGrom from the game. Vic Black came on and induced consecutive pop-ups to pinch-hitters to keep the shutout intact.

Jeurys Familia pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Jenrry Mejia picked up his second save of the series. Mejia allowed a pair of singles in the ninth, but Lyle Overbay grounded to second for the final out.

Game Notes

Duda has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games ... Mejia's save was his 15th of the year ... The Mets have won four of six overall ... New York finished 1- for-11 with runners in scoring position ... Davis and Segura had two hits apiece for Milwaukee.
