National League Preview from The Sports Network

Thursday, August 15th (All times Eastern)

Cincinnati Reds (68-52) at Milwaukee Brewers (52-68), 8:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Cincinnati - Tony Cingrani (5-2, 2.87) Milwaukee - Kyle Lohse (8-7, 3.26)

(Sports Network) - Streaking veteran righty Kyle Lohse can play spoiler against one of his former teams on Thursday when the Milwaukee Brewers host the Cincinnati Reds to open a four-game series at Miller Park.

The 34-year-old was with the Reds across parts of two seasons in 2006 and 2007, winning nine of 26 decisions in 33 appearances before he was dispatched to Philadelphia.

Lohse re-energized his career when he ultimately went to St. Louis, where he reached double-digit victories three times in five seasons, including 16 wins in 19 decisions last season.

He signed a free agent deal with the Brewers shortly before the beginning of the 2013 season and struggled early, losing six of his first seven decisions across his initial 11 starts.

He's 7-1 since then, however, and was a 4-3 winner over the Reds when he last met them on July 8 in Cincinnati.

That victory lifted him to 4-3 in 13 career starts against Cincinnati.

He's opposed by 24-year-old lefty Tony Cingrani.

Cingrani has been pressed into significant starting service in the absence of Reds ace Johnny Cueto, who's spent multiple stints on the disabled list in 2013.

Cingrani won five of his initial six decisions this season before dropping a 3-1 verdict to San Diego on Aug. 10 after allowing two unearned runs on five innings.

He's 0-1 in two starts against Milwaukee, including a 2-0 loss on July 9 at Miller Park.

On Wednesday in Chicago, Bronson Arroyo threw seven scoreless innings and the Reds completed a sweep of a three-game series against the Cubs with a 5-0 shutout.

Arroyo (11-9) allowed just two hits and struck out seven in his outing. Todd Frazier had a home run and two RBI while Joey Votto, Ryan Hanigan and Zack Cozart drove in a run apiece for the Reds, who have won four straight and seven of their last eight games.

In Texas, Ian Kinsler scorched a go-ahead, two-run single as part of a three- run seventh inning, as the Rangers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Brewers in the finale of a two-game series.

Juan Francisco clubbed a pair of home runs and knocked in all four runs for the Brewers, who wrapped up a nine-game road trip at 5-4. John Axford (5-6) was tagged with the loss after giving up the lead in the seventh.

The Reds won six of the first nine games with the Brewers in 2013, though Milwaukee won two of three when the teams last met between July 8-10.
