MLB Game Summary - Philadelphia at Cleveland

(Tuesday, April 30th)

Final Score: Cleveland 14, Philadelphia 2

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians put on a power display, belting five two-run homers and going yard seven times overall in a 14-2 romp of the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a two-game Interleague series at the launching pad known as Progressive Field.

Ryan Raburn recorded a two-homer game for the second day in a row for the Indians, who have totaled 33 runs while winning three straight games. Six of Cleveland's seven home runs came with two outs.

"Sometimes you're gonna have nights like these and other nights we're gonna be on the other end. We just got to go out there, have fun, play hard and hopefully that night falls our way," Raburn said.

Cleveland starter Zach McAllister (2-3) allowed home runs to Delmon Young and Chase Utley and only three other hits in a season-best seven innings.

The Indians quickly jumped on Philadelphia starter Roy Halladay (2-3), who appeared to have turned the corner with three consecutive strong assignments. Tuesday's outing, however, resembled the struggles he endured in his first two starts of the season as he was tagged for eight runs on nine hits -- both season highs -- in 3 2/3 innings.

Halladay gave up a pair of two-out, two-run homers to Carlos Santana and Mark Reynolds in the first inning.

The Indians scored four more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to go up 12-1.

Halladay was removed after a two-out single by Asdrubal Cabrera plated a pair in the fourth. Lonnie Chisenhall had followed Reynolds' leadoff single with a drive over the right-field wall.

Halladay had gone 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA over his last three starts after giving up a combined 12 runs in losses to the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets.

The barrage continued in the fifth against Chad Durbin as Raburn and Michael Brantley each clubbed two-run homers off the Philadelphia reliever.

Raburn and Drew Stubbs hit back-to-back shots off Raul Valdes in the seventh.

"I don't know how you stop them. Everything they hit was hard," said Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel.

A bright spot for the Phillies was Young, who went 2-for-3 in his season debut. The free-agent signee, who missed the team's first 26 games while recovering from right ankle surgery, homered in his first at-bat in the second.

Utley went deep in the sixth.

Game Notes

Raburn became the first Indians player to have back-to-back multi-homer games since Travis Hafner accomplished the feat on July 19-20, 2004 ... The Phillies were coming off a three-game sweep of the Mets in New York ... Philadelphia first baseman Ryan Howard went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games ... To make room for Young on the 25-man roster, the Phillies designated outfielder Ezequiel Carrera for assignment ... Cleveland right fielder/first baseman Nick Swisher was out of the lineup with a sore left shoulder ... The Phillies swept a three-game set June 22-24, 2010 at Citizens Bank Park the last time these teams met ... Philadelphia still leads the all-time series, 6-4.
