National League Game Summary - Arizona at Colorado

(Wednesday, June 4)

Final Score: Arizona 16, Colorado 8

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Miguel Montero and Paul Goldschmidt drove in 10 runs between them as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to a 16-8 drubbing of the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.

The Rockies led 8-5 through seven innings, but a furious rally in the final two innings gave Arizona a comfortable win. Goldschmidt cleared the bases with a double in the eighth to put Arizona in front, and Montero padded the cushion with an opposite-field, three-run homer in the ninth.

Montero drove in a career-high six runs while Goldschmidt finished with four RBI and three runs scored for Arizona, winners in two straight following a three-game slide.

"Four runs is not a big lead, especially in this ball park," said Montero, referring to Arizona's initial 4-0 lead through four innings. "Anything can happen. We had to keep scoring."

The top five hitters in Arizona's order all had three hits, including Gerardo Parra, who scored four runs, and Didi Gregorius, who belted his first home run of the season and scored three times.

The D-backs matched a season-high with 21 hits.

Brad Ziegler (2-1) won despite allowing two runs -- one earned -- in two-thirds of an inning in relief, while Rex Brothers (2-4) was tagged with the loss after getting roughed up for five runs without recording an out in the eighth.

The Rockies lost their season-high sixth straight game.

"It's up to us to turn this thing around," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "Each guy. No one is going to do it for us."

Colorado starter Jordan Lyles went four innings, allowing four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits before exiting with a broken left hand. Lyles will be placed on the disabled list.

Gregorius greeted Lyles with a leadoff homer in the top of the first inning. Montero plated Goldschmidt with a sac fly later in the inning, and Martin Prado scored to make it 3-0 on a wild pitch. Prado's RBI single in the third inning made it 4-0.

The Rockies put four across in the fifth inning off Arizona starter Josh Collmenter to tie it. Troy Tulowitzki drove in a pair with a two-bagger to center and Michael Cuddyer followed with a two-run single to right.

Montero briefly gave Arizona a lead, scoring Parra with a single to right with two outs in the seventh, but another four-run frame a half inning later, sparked by leadoff hits from Tulowitzki and Cuddyer, made it 8-5 in favor of the hosts.

Tulowitzki was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Ryan Wheeler for the second out, but Chris Owings' throwing error on D.J. LeMahieu's infield single allowed two runners to cross the plate. Pinch-hitter Drew Stubbs plated two more with a single to right.

Brothers took the mound and allowed four straight singles and a walk, with Owings driving in a run to make it 8-6 and Parra's walk forcing in a run. Masset relieved him and served up Goldschmidt's game-deciding double down the third-base line. Montero's sac fly made it 11-8.

After Oliver Perez pitched a clean bottom of the eighth for Colorado, Montero and the D-backs put up five more runs against Matt Belisle. Gregorius started a two-out rally by legging out a single to shortstop and scoring on Parra's double to the wall in left. Goldschmidt then singled in a run, Prado singled to put two on and Montero cranked one over the wall in left.

Game Notes

Arizona hit 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position, while Colorado finished 5-for-14 ... Gregorius was playing in his first game since March 22. He was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
