National League Game Summary - Miami at San Francisco

(Sunday, June 23rd)

Final Score: Miami 7, San Francisco 2

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Justin Ruggiano homered twice and helped power the Miami Marlins past the San Francisco Giants, 7-2, to win a four-game set at AT&T Park.

Ruggiano finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Marcell Ozuna also had a home run along with two RBI, while Logan Morrison and Greg Dobbs each added an RBI for the Marlins, who took three of the four games in the set and have won in 10 of their last 11 visits to San Francisco.

"I'm proud of those guys because it got a little hairy there early in the season," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond. "They were able turn the page and come back everyday."

In just his second start of the season, Nathan Eovaldi (1-0) had an effective outing. He surrendered two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in six-plus frames.

Matt Cain (5-4) was charged for three runs on six hits in six innings. His 16 home runs allowed are the second-most among any National League pitcher after serving up one of Ruggiano's blasts.

Hunter Pence hit a solo homer while Marco Scutaro had the other RBI for the Giants, who visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday for a three-game series.

"There's no excuses," said Pence. "You just have to keep playing."

With what was a close game for almost all of its entirety, Miami opened it up in its last at-bat.

Ozuna led off with a solo shot to left for a 4-2 lead. Derek Dietrich grounded into a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning, but pinch-hitter Dobbs doubled into the right field corner to score him. Ruggiano's second homer of the day capped off a four-run ninth against Jean Machi to make it 7-2.

The Giants pulled within 3-2 in the seventh on Pence's solo shot. It snapped a season-high eight consecutive games without a Giants home run.

Ruggiano put the Marlins on the board when he took Cain's second pitch of the game over the left-center field wall.

After Morrison singled in the fourth, he came all the way around to score on an Ozuna double to left to make it 2-0.

Ed Lucas and Giancarlo Stanton both singled to start off the sixth inning for Miami. Brandon Belt's fielding error on Morrison's ground ball allowed Lucas to score for a three-run cushion.

San Francisco made up for the error in the home half. Pinch-hitter Tony Abreu smacked a triple just past the glove of a diving Ruggiano in left to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Scutaro grounded out to second to score Abreu.

Game Notes
