National League Game Summary - Atlanta at Colorado

(Wednesday, June 11)

Final Score: Colorado 8, Atlanta 2

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Dickerson smacked a two-run triple among his two hits and three RBI and the Colorado Rockies defeated the Atlanta Braves, 8-2, in the third installment of a four-game set.

Josh Rutledge had two hits and scored three times, while Troy Tulowitzki and Justin Morneau both posted three hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Rockies, who had dropped 11 of their last 12 games coming in.

Tyler Matzek (1-0), who carried a perfect game bid into the fifth, struck out seven and allowed two runs on five hits over seven-plus innings to notch his first career win.

"Explosive fastball and it looked like his slider disappeared," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of Matzek. "It looked like he had it all working."

Julio Teheran (6-4) yielded seven runs on 10 hits over 6 1/3 frames for Atlanta, which won the first two games of the series.

The Rockies opened the scoring with three runs in the first and added to their lead after plating a run in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Rutledge singled with one out in the first and after Tulowitzki popped out, Morneau singled into right to put runners on the corners. Drew Stubbs then cracked a double into right-center to bring home Rutledge and Dickerson's triple into the gap in left-center plated Morneau and Stubbs.

Stubbs' sacrifice fly in the third made it 4-0.

Rutledge was hit by a pitch with one out in the fifth and then scored from first on Tulowitzki's bloop single into left. Shortstop Andrelton Simmons took in Justin Upton's throw from left field and threw to first, catching Tulowitzki in a rundown. Rutledge scored while Tulowitzki was being chased between first and second.

Dickerson belted an RBI double in the sixth and Colorado tacked on even further in the seventh following RBI singles by Tulowitzki and Morneau to make it 8-0.

RBI singles by Simmons and B.J. Upton in the eighth finally got Atlanta on the board.

"I thought if we could've put a couple more on the board we would've been ok," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said of the eighth.

Game Notes

Colorado was 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position, while the Braves finished 3-for-9 with RISP ... Tulowitzki has 43 RBI on the season ... Matzek threw 60 of his 81 pitches for strikes.
